49ers promote TE Je’Ron Hamm and release RB DuJuan Harris

Oct 1, 2016 at 1:16 PM--

The San Francisco 49ers have announced that they have promoted TE Je'Ron Hamm from the practice squad to the active roster. Hamm will wear No. 85.

Vance McDonald (hip) and Garrett Celek (back), both tight ends, were listed as questionable on the team's injury report on Friday. That left the 49ers with Blake Bell as the only healthy tight end. Eric Branch of the San Francisco Chronicle reports that McDonald "presumably" will not play on Sunday against the Dallas Cowboys.

In order to make room on the roster, the team has released RB DuJuan Harris.

Hamm originally joined the 49ers after the team claimed him off of waivers from the Washington Redskins in December. He was released during the team's final roster cuts and then signed to the practice squad the following day.

Harris was re-signed by the team on September 13, following his release the day before.

According to Justin Melo of The Draft Network, the San Francisco 49ers are among several teams that have held virtual pre-draft meetings with 6-foot-5 wide receiver Jacob Harris. While Harris was a receiver at UCF, he could fit in as a tight end in the NFL. "The NFL is split on which position Harris will play. He's a big pass catcher," wrote Melo. The other teams that have reportedly met with Harris include the Arizona Cardinals, Los Angeles Rams, New England Patriots, New York Jets, and several others. #UCF

Justin Fields of Ohio State will hold a second pro day workout on Wednesday. Five days later, Trey Lance of North Dakota State will take part in his second. Both are trying to ensure that they are selected ahead of Mac Jones of Alabama. Trevor Lawrence of Clemson is expected to be drafted No. 1 overall. The New York Jets are expected to select Zach Wilson of BYU at No. 2. Assuming San Francisco targets a quarterback, that leaves Jones, Fields, and Lance as San Francisco's choices at No. 3. Jones is the overwhelming favorite to be the pick if you ask members of the national media. Fans would much prefer the more athletic and higher ceilinged prospects in Fields or Lance. Head coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch chose to attend Jones'
