The Risk and Reward of the 49ers Starting Trey Lance on Sunday

By Chris Beno
Jan 5

Last Sunday, rookie quarterback Trey Lance showed improvement since his first, and only start in Week 5. Lance completed 16 of 23 pass attempts for 249 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception—a very Jimmy Garoppolo-like stat line. After struggling to find an offensive rhythm early in the first half, Lance came out guns blazing in the second, spreading the ball all over the field, especially outside of the numbers, and targeting the deeper and intermediate routes on pass plays. Trey Lance brought a vertical element to the 49ers offense in his second career start.Lance averaged the most air

The San Francisco 49ers are preparing for their Week 18 contest against the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California. Quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo was limited for his third consecutive practice. He is working hard to start Sunday's game, despite dealing with a serious thumb injury. Garoppolo is listed as "questionable." "He had a good week," head coach Kyle Shanahan said. "Yeah, a good week of practice when he was in there. I feel good with where he is at right now." Tackle Trent Williams did not practice at all this week. He suffered an elbow injury during Week 17's win against the Houston Texans. Williams is also listed as "questionable." "No, Trent didn't practice," Shanahan said. "He's still rehabbing his

The San Francisco 49ers rallied to beat the division-rival Los Angeles Rams on Sunday, the last weekend of the regular season. In doing so, head coach Kyle Shanahan's squad punched its ticket into the playoffs. Assuming they won, the 49ers' next opponent was already known, even as they were fighting for the win in overtime. A victory meant a trip to Arlington, Texas, to face the Dallas Cowboys, winners of the NFC East. On Sunday night, the NFL announced the date and time of the 49ers-Cowboys matchup. The two teams will kick off from AT&T Stadium on Sunday, January 16 at 1:30 PM PT (3:30 PM CT). San Francisco finished the season with a 10-7 record. It was just the second time in the past eight years that the 49ers have finished with a winning

ESPN writer Bill Barnwell made his playoff predictions all the way to Super Bowl LVI. He has the Kansas City Chiefs topping the Los Angeles Rams 31-24 in the NFL's championship game. The first order of business for the San Francisco 49ers to ensure that isn't the matchup will be to beat the NFC East champion Dallas Cowboys in the opening round of postseason play, which begins this weekend. While many like the 49ers' chances in this matchup, Barnwell isn't sure San Francisco can come out on top. He predicts a 27-14 Dallas win at AT&T Stadium on Sunday. Barnwell admits that the 49ers have a talented roster capable of upsetting any opponent. However, like many playoff teams this year, it is not without flaws. Barnwell doesn't like this matchup for the 49ers as
