Jun 7, 2016 at 10:40 AM--

San Francisco 49ers head coach Chip Kelly announced today that the team would hold joint practices with the Houston Texans and Denver Broncos prior to each exhibition matchup.

Those practices will take place on August 12 (with Texans) and August 17 and 18 (with Broncos).

The 49ers play the Texans at home on Sunday, August 14 to open up the preseason. They face the Broncos on the road the following week on Saturday, August 20.

The 49ers held a joint practice with the Broncos in Denver last season as well. The 49ers' complete 2016 schedule can be found here.

49ers Notebook: Trey Lance assesses first two practices; Ryans praises Lance, Nick Bosa; Richard Sherman predicts 49ers DBs will be 'among the best'

By Kirk Larrabee

Following the 49ers' practice session on Thursday, quarterback Trey Lance spoke publicly for the first time since June while defensive coordinator DeMeco Ryans chatted with reporters about what he's seen so far from his side of the ball -- and from the quarterback his defense has been facing. Lance spoke on a number of topics, including what he thought of his first two days of training camp as the team's starter. Ryans offered his views of Lance, as well as what he's seen from some of the key players in the secondary and on the defensive line. Plus, there was an interesting Twitter quote Thursday from former 49ers cornerback Richard Sherman, who expects to see big things from his former defensive teammates this season. Here's a run-down of all of

49ers' Nick Bosa explains how unpadded practices are a benefit

The San Francisco 49ers will hold their first padded practice on Monday. Most players look forward to it, welcoming sessions that feel a little more like game action. However, Star defensive end Nick Bosa doesn't mind the unpadded practices. In fact, he feels they greatly benefit him, despite the perception that the sessions are watered-down versions of their padded counterparts. "We're hitting out there," Bosa told reporters this past week. "Whether we have pads on or not, it's pretty much the same thing. But definitely, more power rushes will be used once the pads do come on. I kind of like the days without pads because it forces me to use finesse moves, which sometimes I get away from throughout the season because my power works a lot. "So just these two days

Why Kyle Shanahan isn't concerned with high number of interceptions in 49ers practices

San Francisco 49ers quarterbacks have thrown several interceptions during the early practices of training camp. Looking at it from a defensive perspective, that's good. Not so much from the offense's perspective. The team is entering the 2022 season with second-year quarterback Trey Lance under center. Lance's head coach isn't too concerned, though. At least, not yet. He explained why before Monday's practice, the first padded session of training camp. "It's not like I come in and I'm happy about it, but I just don't overreact to them," Kyle Shanahan told reporters. "It's part of camp. You can't block D-linemen without pads on, so I don't like them just sitting there, curling up into a fetal position, and not letting it go. I like to be able to coach

Rapoport: 49ers willing to hold onto Jimmy Garoppolo until cut-down day

By David Bonilla

Jimmy Garoppolo isn't practicing, but he is throwing next to his soon-to-be former San Francisco 49ers teammates. He looks healthy, too, according to one reporter. "I watched Jimmy Garoppolo make about 25 full-tilt throws to a junior staffer on a side field during the 49ers' training-camp practice Friday," wrote Tim Kawakami of The Athletic, "and there's no question he's close to 100 percent healed after his March shoulder surgery and one of the top 32 QBs in the league right now. Maybe it's a shorter list than 32." The quarterback is cleared to do whatever he needs within the restrictions of his rehabilitation from that March 8 procedure. He has full
