Kevin O’Connell joins 49ers coaching staff

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports that former Cleveland Browns quarterback coach Kevin O'Connell has joined the San Francisco 49ers coaching staff beginning this week at the NFL Scouting Combine.


The 49ers brought in Ryan Day from the Philadelphia Eagles to coach the quarterbacks, so it is unknown what role O'Connell will play.

He only has one year of coaching experience. Prior to that, he spent five years as a quarterback after being selected in the third round of the 2008 NFL Draft by the New England Patriots. He also spent time with the Detroit Lions, New York Jets, Miami Dolphins, and San Diego Chargers before calling it quits in 2012.

The San Francisco 49ers entered Week 2's matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles without linebacker Dre Greenlaw and starting cornerback Emmanuel Moseley. Greenlaw is expected to miss four to six weeks after undergoing core muscle surgery. Moseley is inactive for the second consecutive game due to a knee injury. Kyle Shanahan says Kevin Givens, JaMycal Hasty will be out "a while"; 3 running backs visiting 49ers

San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan spoke with reporters today via a conference call and provided several injury updates. He confirmed a report from The Athletic that defensive tackle Kevin Givens suffered a high-ankle sprain during the team's 17-11 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles. Givens' injury occurred in the first quarter. Also suffering a high-ankle sprain was running back JaMycal Hasty. Shanahan doesn't expect either to return soon. "Kevin Givens had a high-ankle [sprain]," Shanahan said. "He'll be out for a while. Same thing with JaMycal Hasty—high-ankle." Shanahan also provided injury updates to several 49ers running

The San Francisco 49ers have announced the following roster moves ahead of tomorrow night's Week 3 matchup against the Green Bay Packers. Activated from the practice squad RB Kerryon Johnson Placed on injured reserve DL Kevin Givens RB JaMycal Hasty Givens and Hasty were injured during the 49ers' Week 2 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles. Both suffered ankle injuries but could return later this season. San Francisco enters the game with a 2-0 record while Green Bay is 1-1. Kickoff between the two teams is scheduled for 5:20 p.m. from Levi's Stadium. The home-team Niners are currently favored by 3.5
