49ers working out Terrelle Pryor

Oct 5, 2015 at 8:55 AM--

According to NFL Network's Rand Getlin, Terrelle Pryor is scheduled to work out at wide receiver with the San Francisco 49ers today.

Pryor has experience at quarterback. Right now, the only quarterbacks on the active roster are Colin Kaepernick and Blaine Gabbert. Dylan Thompson is on the team's practice squad.

Pryor started his career with the Oakland Raiders, but has spent time during the offseasons or practice squads with the Seattle Seahawks, Kansas City Chiefs, Cincinnati Bengals, and Cleveland Browns.

Winston Churchill once said, "There is nothing wrong with change, if it is in the right direction." This is so in football, as much as in everyday life. With a slew of free agents, a tight salary cap, and roster questions at many key positions, the 49ers are indeed about to change. Nowhere is that more true than at the quarterback position. Rumors suggesting the release of 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo, a blockbuster trade for Houston's star quarterback Deshaun Watson, and a host of potential free agent signings have swirled since the close of the team's 2020 season in January. Nothing yet has happened, and in fact it may not any time soon. But ready or not, the NFL draft is approaching, and 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch will

ESPN: It would take the 'Deshaun Watson effect' for the 49ers to move on from Jimmy Garoppolo

Jimmy Garoppolo is the most likely candidate to be San Francisco's starting quarterback in 2021, and it sounds like that's fine by the 49ers. The quarterback wants out of Houston, but the Texans have no desire to trade him and are still hoping to reconcile their differences. Fowler added on SportsCenter this weekend that it would take a monumental opportunity, like adding Watson, for the 49ers to even consider moving on from Garoppolo. "I'm told San Fran is looking at potential upgrades, but they still like Jimmy G," Fowler said via

49ers add WR DeVonta Smith in latest PFF mock draft

If the San Francisco 49ers don't make a move for a quarterback in this year's draft, many can envision the team going after a cornerback or adding another defensive end. Several of San Francisco's top cornerbacks are scheduled to become free agents. It's a list that includes Richard Sherman, Jason Verrett, and K'Waun Williams. The 49ers didn't have their top two pass rushers — Nick Bosa or Dee Ford — for most of last season. Bosa is rehabbing an ACL injury, while the status of Ford's back and neck injuries remains unclear. If Ford isn't healthy by April 1, San Francisco will be on the hook for a significant portion of his 2021 salary — $11.6 million — regardless of whether he is on the roster. Rather than target one of these positions,
