49ers activate Bowman to 53-man roster, put McDonald on IR

Dec 9, 2014 at 11:25 AM--

Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee is reporting that the San Francisco 49ers have activated linebacker NaVorro Bowman to the 53-man roster.

Bowman has been recovering from an ACL and MCL injury suffered during last season's NFC Championship game.

The team has placed tight end Vance McDonald on injured reserve to make room for Bowman.

Don't expect to see Bowman this week against Seattle or perhaps anytime soon. 49ers defensive coordinator Vic Fangio has said that Bowman will need several weeks of practice before he is ready to play. With the 49ers playoff hopes close to an end, it is still possible that you may not see him this season.

Pro Football Focus recently completed its positional-by-position rankings for all 32 NFL teams. Now, it's time for analyst Anthony Treash to combine everything and determine the league's best overall rosters, ranking each from best to worst. "The list was heavily influenced by the two-year PFF WAR (wins above replacement) of the players who are currently on each roster, but it also had some subjective projection involved for those younger, emerging talents," Treash explained. Obviously, things may change slightly in about a week, but for now, this is where each squad stands in Pro Football Focus' eyes as the league heads into the 2021 NFL

It's pretty safe to assume that Kyle Shanahan's father, longtime NFL head coach Mike Shanahan, has had at least some influence on the quarterback evaluation process leading up to next week's draft. Maybe even a significant influence. Ultimately, it will be Kyle Shanahan's decision, with input from his father, general manager John Lynch, and other team personnel. Matt Barrows of The Athletic recently answered questions from fans and was asked about Mike Shanahan's influence on the San Francisco 49ers' looming decision. Schrager: Potential 49ers target Trey Lance is the smartest QB in the draft

By David Bonilla

Trey Lance of North Dakota State is a mystery prospect. He has just 17 career collegiate starts and appeared in just one game this past season due to the pandemic — a non-conference win over Central Arkansas. The performance didn't wow anyone, especially considering it followed an impressive sophomore campaign during which he completed 66.9 percent of his passes for 2,786 yards with 28 touchdowns and no interceptions through 16 games. Lance has very little experience but is viewed as having enormous upside. He could very well be the No. 3 overall pick by the San Francisco 49ers. While the betting favorite remains Mac Jones of Alabama, with the draft less than a week away, most would say that a Lance-to-49ers scenario wouldn't be a shock. Honestly, with all of the
