49ers activate Bowman to 53-man roster, put McDonald on IR

Dec 9, 2014 at 11:25 AM--

Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee is reporting that the San Francisco 49ers have activated linebacker NaVorro Bowman to the 53-man roster.

Bowman has been recovering from an ACL and MCL injury suffered during last season's NFC Championship game.

The team has placed tight end Vance McDonald on injured reserve to make room for Bowman.

Don't expect to see Bowman this week against Seattle or perhaps anytime soon. 49ers defensive coordinator Vic Fangio has said that Bowman will need several weeks of practice before he is ready to play. With the 49ers playoff hopes close to an end, it is still possible that you may not see him this season.

Deebo Samuel hopes to be on the field with his San Francisco 49ers teammates on Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals. However, speaking with reporters after Friday's practice, the wide receiver didn't sound overly optimistic about his chances of playing this weekend. The 49ers officially listed Samuel as "questionable" for Sunday. His wide receiver teammate, Jauan Jennings, was listed as "doubtful," making him unlikely to play. While Samuel was listed as a limited practice participant on Friday, most of his work was done on a side field with trainers. "I feel pretty good," Samuel said after practice. "We'll just see how I continue to progress for the next

49ers WR Deebo Samuel's status appears to be trending up ahead of Week 4

By Rohan Chakravarthi
Sep 30

The San Francisco 49ers announced their weekly practice squad elevations, sharing that wide receiver Willie Snead and cornerback Kendall Sheffield will be called up to the active roster for their Week 4 matchup against the Arizona Cardinals. With the announcement that Snead would be called up, one may assume that 49ers wideout Deebo Samuel's status would be trending down, as the 49ers expect to add another wideout to the active roster for Week 4. However, it's actually the opposite. Looking at the injury report, the 49ers aren't at risk of just missing Samuel, but
