Steve Young: 'No question' that Zach Wilson is the 'first choice' of the 49ers

Hall of Fame quarterback Steve Young brought up an interesting point during his Wednesday interview on KNBR. The San Francisco 49ers don't expect—or hope not—to be drafting as high as No. 12 in upcoming years. So, if they wanted one of the top quarterbacks, and with next year's crop of prospects not looking as attractive as this year's, moving up in this draft was probably a smart move. The 49ers would probably never find a way to get into the top three if they sit in the low 20s—or even better, at No. 32. At No. 12, however, they had a shot and pulled it off. They still had to give up a lot, though, to make a move. Now, the choices appear to be Justin Fields, Trey Lance, or Mac Jones. Trevor Lawrence and Zach Wilson look slated to go one and

NFL Media analysts Bucky Brooks and Daniel Jeremiah went through the exercise of predicting the first three picks for the San Francisco 49ers in this year's draft. The team currently owns one selection in each of the first three rounds — Nos. 3, 43, and 102 overall. The duo took turns during the Path to the Draft segment on NFL Network, with Brooks going first. Jeremiah recently had San Francisco selecting former Alabama quarterback Mac Jones in his latest mock draft. Brooks has been critical of the idea that head coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch gave up so much draft capital to select

NFL's Racist Past Has a Part in the Jones Versus Fields Debate

It's time to address the elephant in the room. Racism has helped Mac Jones' stock and hurt Justin Fields' in the lead-up to the draft. Yes, it really is happening. Now before you freak out, take a breath, and keep reading because I don't mean what you likely think I mean. No, I don't think draft pundits are sitting at their keyboards and purposefully finding reasons to knock Fields while talking up Jones simply because of the color of their skin. That would be what I would call blatant racism or conscious racism, if you will. Racism has more nuance than that. There is such a thing as unconscious racism and every single person in this country has acted on it at one point or another without realizing it. How? Why? Because racism has purposefully been

NFL exec on 49ers: "I just don't buy Kyle Shanahan moving up all the way to three for Mac Jones"

Mike Sando of The Athletic has been doing his rounds around the league, asking about the San Francisco 49ers trading up to the No. 3 overall pick to select a quarterback. Even with the top two picks considered a lock—Trevor Lawrence to the Jacksonville Jaguars and Zach Wilson to the New York Jets—no one is really certain about the 49ers' plan. There is speculation—a lot of it. Because of his history with quarterbacks like Kirk Cousins and Matt Ryan, many feel San Francisco traded up for Mac Jones of Alabama. Two NFL executives who spoke to Sando can see that happening. Whether or not they agree with the potential selection is another story. "I've heard they are really seriously thinking of Mac Jones and it would blow my mind,"
