49ers hope to get new deals done for 5 others

Sep 20, 2006 at 10:47 PM--

According to Matt Maiocco of the Press Democrat, the San Francisco 49ers hope to get new deals done for five other players. These players are RB Frank Gore, RB Maurice Hicks, OL Adam Snyder, OL Justin Smiley and FS Mike Adams.

Matt Maiocco:
It would behoove the 49ers to get a deal done with Adams because he is scheduled to be a restricted free agent at the end of the season. Adams was undrafted, so the 49ers would receive no compensation from a team that signs him to an offer sheet. However, the 49ers would have the right to match any offer, if it goes that far.

The 49ers gave starting left cornerback Shawntae Spencer a contract extension on Wednesday.

The San Francisco 49ers would love to find another tight end to complement George Kittle on the football field. Their attempts last year saw them draft two tight ends—Cameron Latu and Brayden Willis. Among those reported so far, three are tight ends. According to various reports, the 49ers have spoken with Theo Johnson from Penn State, Jaheim Bell from Florida State, and Jared Wiley from

ESPN analyst Mel Kiper unveiled his latest mock draft, projecting the 32 selections of the first round. However, Kiper has the team going in another direction. He proposes adding a pass rusher to complement defensive end Nick Bosa on the opposite side. Kiper's pick for San Francisco is Chop Robinson of Penn State. Kiper wrote, "It has to be offensive line or edge rusher for the 49ers, right? They need to find
