Chance to win a championship influenced Josh Norman's decision to sign with 49ers

By David Bonilla

Josh Norman is entering his 10th NFL season. He is a Pro Bowl cornerback. He is an All-Pro defender. There's just one thing that is missing from his résumé—a championship. That's why he decided to sign with the San Francisco 49ers, even with other teams courting him. "I can honestly say I've done what I want to do in this league except one thing, and that's win a championship," Norman told reporters after practice today. "My next suitor, for me, was going to be who[ever] that was on my list. "San Fran was at the very top of that list. We've been talking to each other for a while. We've been courting each other for quite some time. It's been months that we've been courting each other. Some other teams was in the mix of that. ... But to [ask]

Shanahan: Injury issues and Trent Sherfield's emergence led to lack of time for 49ers WR Brandon Aiyuk vs Lions

By Kirk Larrabee

Brandon Aiyuk's lack of playing time at wide receiver was one of the biggest surprises for the 49ers in their 41-33 Week 1 win over the Detroit Lions, and it may or may not continue to be an issue to keep an eye on in the weeks to come. Aiyuk was impressive as a rookie last season (60 receptions for 748 yards and five touchdowns) after being selected in Round 1 of the 2020 NFL Draft out of Arizona State and was thought by many to be a candidate to take an even bigger step this season. The 49ers have a conundrum on their hands. At least it seems so, with the constant hesitancy around Brandon Aiyuk from head coach Kyle Shanahan. Brandon Aiyuk was the 49ers' promising 1st-round pick from just a year ago, catching sixty passes for 748 yards and seven combined touchdowns while starting only 11 games, being an explosive piece in both the run and pass game. However, this past Sunday, when the 49ers opened their season against the Detroit Lions, Aiyuk was not involved in either aspect, catching no passes and getting no rushes, which raised eyes about the 49ers' offensive game plan. While Aiyuk nursed a hamstring injury throughout the offseason, there was optimism that the second-year receiver would return and play a prominent role as the

San Francisco 49ers linebacker Dre Greenlaw will undergo a procedure to repair a groin injury, per Matt Barrows of The Athletic. It is not expected to end his season but the defender will obviously miss some time. While Barrows initially reported that timeline to be about four to six weeks, NFL insider Ian Rapoport reports it to be six to eight weeks.
