49ers one of the teams interested in Matt Hasselbeck

Mar 18, 2013 at 4:01 PM--

The Tennessee Titans released quarterback Matt Hasselbeck on Monday. According to ESPN's Chris Mortensen, the San Francisco 49ers are one of a number of teams interested in the former Titan, Seahawk and Packer.

Hasselbeck, who is 37, completed 457 of 739 passes for 4,938 yards, 25 touchdowns and 19 interceptions over the past two seasons with the Titans.

After trading quarterback Alex Smith to the Kansas City Chiefs, the 49ers may be looking for a veteran backup for starter Colin Kaepernick. Right now, Scott Tolzien is the only other quarterback on the roster.

The 49ers tried to get Hasselbeck in 2011 after the lockout concluded. Hasselbeck chose the Titans over the 49ers.

Schefter adds another team to the mix, saying that the Las Vegas Raiders are also interested in interviewing the 49ers coordinator for their head coaching

Jordan Willis and Talanoa Hufanga wouldn't have been the first two players many would have predicted to become game-changing heroes in Saturday night's Divisional Playoff game against the Green Bay Packers, but both of them delivered plays in the 49ers' 13-10 win that will be remembered for years to come. The efforts of Willis and Hufanga were part of a huge special teams performance for the 49ers that played a crucial role in winning a game in which they had no offensive or defensive touchdowns. Willis was involved in two significant special teams plays, the first of which came at the end of the first half when he got penetration that helped safety Jimmie Ward block a field goal to prevent the Packers from going up by ten

The San Francisco 49ers upset the Green Bay Packers 13-10, punching their ticket to the NFC Championship Game. With the wind chill bringing the temperature down to zero degrees, the only thing colder was both teams' offense, with both struggling for the majority of the game. The 49ers finished the game with 212 total yards on offense, after only having 58 total yards in the first half. All of the points in this game came from the special teams unit, which has emerged as the team's Achilles heel for most of the season. Towards the end of the first half, 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo evaded pressure and forced a pass to tight end George Kittle that got intercepted in the red zone. The Packers marched downfield and got into field goal range to try

San Francisco 49ers fans are confident their team will emerge with a victory over the Dallas Cowboys this weekend, the opening weekend of the NFL playoffs. Kyle Shanahan's squad has become a bit of a sexy Wild Card pick. The Cowboys are favored by three points, and the Niners are the road team. They boarded a Dallas-bound plane after Friday's practice and enter the matchup with a lot of confidence. The 49ers also could be healthier than they have been all season. Quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo is still dealing with a thumb injury, but he delivered a gutsy performance in last weekend's regular-season finale against the Los Angeles Rams. He's just one of the
