The Tennessee Titans released quarterback Matt Hasselbeck on Monday. According to ESPN's Chris Mortensen, the San Francisco 49ers are one of a number of teams interested in the former Titan, Seahawk and Packer.

Hasselbeck, who is 37, completed 457 of 739 passes for 4,938 yards, 25 touchdowns and 19 interceptions over the past two seasons with the Titans.

After trading quarterback Alex Smith to the Kansas City Chiefs, the 49ers may be looking for a veteran backup for starter Colin Kaepernick. Right now, Scott Tolzien is the only other quarterback on the roster.

The 49ers tried to get Hasselbeck in 2011 after the lockout concluded. Hasselbeck chose the Titans over the 49ers.

Of course, the Texans remain the favorite to have Watson for Week 1. Watson is not happy after the Texans asked for his involvement in the team's search for a new general manager and head coach. Then, members of the team's brass ignored the quarterback's suggestions and are

The San Francisco 49ers may fall victim to the effect of running what many consider to be a successful and innovative scheme — the poaching of talent. Despite the six-win season, the team is just a year removed from a Super Bowl appearance, and head coach Kyle Shanahan remains one of the most highly-respected offensive minds in the league. NFL analyst Daniel Jeremiah points out that one of the subplots within the coach-interviewing flurry across the league is that multiple top candidates plan on running the scheme that Shanahan runs in San Francisco (h/t to Patrick Tulini). That could mean a run on assistants familiar with the system, and the 49ers have an abundance of

Despite the fractured relationship, the Houston Texans remain the favorites to have Deshaun Watson as their starting quarterback to kick off the 2021 season. However, should the relationship be damaged beyond repair, a trade could be in the quarterback's future if he chooses to force a divorce. San Francisco 49ers fans would love to see what Watson paired with head coach Kyle Shanahan would mean for opposing defenses. However, that would also mean giving up a lot in terms of compensation to acquire the young playmaker, and oddsmakers have five teams — other than the Texans — listed as more likely destinations for the disgruntled quarterback. Below are the 10 favorites to have Watson on their rosters during Week 1 of the 2021 season, per Bovada and
