49ers one of the teams interested in Matt Hasselbeck

Mar 18, 2013 at 4:01 PM--

The Tennessee Titans released quarterback Matt Hasselbeck on Monday. According to ESPN's Chris Mortensen, the San Francisco 49ers are one of a number of teams interested in the former Titan, Seahawk and Packer.

Hasselbeck, who is 37, completed 457 of 739 passes for 4,938 yards, 25 touchdowns and 19 interceptions over the past two seasons with the Titans.

After trading quarterback Alex Smith to the Kansas City Chiefs, the 49ers may be looking for a veteran backup for starter Colin Kaepernick. Right now, Scott Tolzien is the only other quarterback on the roster.

The 49ers tried to get Hasselbeck in 2011 after the lockout concluded. Hasselbeck chose the Titans over the 49ers.

The San Francisco 49ers have a plethora of talent. The roster is among the best in the league. You ask the players inside the locker room, and they'll tell you without a doubt that they are the best. "We have a talented football team," wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk said in February. "We have, hands down, the best football team in the league. Hands down. Hands down. I'm not even about to argue with anybody who thinks they should argue that." Free agency and the draft have come and gone since that comment. Still, another 49ers receiver agrees wholeheartedly with Aiyuk. "From (Nick) Bosa, Arik (Armstead) to Fred (Warner), we got youngins growing, Deo

Sometimes who is teaching is as important as what is being taught Earlier this week, when the San Francisco 49ers opened up an OTAs session to the media, most of the eyes, in person and online, were on third-year quarterback Trey Lance's new delivery. Lance, of course, had been working with QB guru, Jeff Christensen, and thanks to some leaked footage of Lance throwing with Kansas City Chiefs quarterback, Patrick Mahomes, along with a very well-timed piece by Matt Barrows in The Athletic, there was plenty of

Kyle Shanahan feels "really fortunate" with 49ers' QB room

By David Bonilla

Kyle Shanahan praises his quarterback room every year. Last season, the San Francisco 49ers went through three starting quarterbacks and still made it to the NFC Championship Game. Trey Lance was the Week 1 starter but suffered a season-ending ankle injury during his second game. Eleven weeks later, Jimmy Garoppolo sustained a broken foot. That opened the door for rookie Brock Purdy to show his coaches and the NFL world that he belonged, despite being the last overall pick in the draft. Purdy guided the 49ers to eight consecutive wins before suffering a severe injury in that NFC title game matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles. Two of the quarterbacks from last season—Lance and Purdy—remain. Both are just 23 years old. They are joined by Sam
