Frank Gore's NFL playing date may be behind him, but the future Hall of Fame running back is enjoying another passion—boxing. The San Francisco 49ers all-time rushing leader celebrated his 39th birthday on Saturday by knocking out Yaya Olorunsola in the fourth round during his pro boxing debut.

Jimmy Garoppolo has remained on the San Francisco 49ers roster far longer than anyone expected or predicted. The Niners have tried to trade the veteran, clearing the way for second-year quarterback Trey Lance. However, offseason shoulder surgery halted trade discussions, and the 49ers, for now, appear stuck with Garoppolo and his hefty salary.
The 49ers have maintained that they are comfortable holding onto Garoppolo if they cannot strike a deal to their liking. Everyone realizes, though, that Plan A is to trade the quarterback for something worthwhile rather than letting him fulfill his contract on the team and leave as a free agent in 2023. Releasing Garoppolo would also net them nothing, aside from salary cap space.

In a move that was expected since last month, the Jacksonville Jaguars have officially hired San Francisco 49ers' vice president of player personnel Ethan Waugh as the team's assistant general manager. This offseason, Waugh was promoted from director of college scouting and football systems to his departing title with the 49ers, so the role was short-lived.

Where the 49ers landed in latest ESPN power ranking

With the draft behind us, ESPN released its latest power rankings. The list is based on the evaluations from a panel of more than 80 writers, editors, and TV personalities.
The Buffalo Bills came out on top, followed by the Super Bowl champion Los Angeles Rams, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Kansas City Chiefs, and Green Bay Packers. The Cincinnati Bengals, Los Angeles Chargers, and Dallas Cowboys round out the top eight.
The San Francisco 49ers come in at No. 9, one spot lower than their post-free agency ranking. The biggest storyline heading into the offseason was the transition from veteran Jimmy Garoppolo
