Apr 10, 2006 at 12:25 PM--

According to the Denver Post, there is speculation making the national rounds that the Denver Broncos will package their No. 15 and No. 22 picks in the first round to move up to No. 5 (Green Bay) or No. 6 (San Francisco) to take Maryland tight end Vernon Davis, whose football ability, size and speed make him an off-the-charts NFL prospect. Davis is not likely to be on the board past the seventh pick.

It was previously reported that the 49ers are interested in trading for Broncos wide receiver Ashley Lelie.

How punter Mitch Wishnowsky may be the key to the 49ers beating the Packers

By Alan Gaines
Jan 20

"My number one goal is not to lose on special teams." San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan uttered this after the Wild Card win versus the Dallas Cowboys last Sunday. The 49ers fan base would definitely agree with the head coach as memories of the 2011 NFC Championship game comes to mind. During the 2011 campaign, the 49ers won the NFC West and were primed to make a Super Bowl run before special teams miscues in the form of two muffed punts during that game derailed the team's hopes of adding a sixth Super Bowl championship to the franchise's storied resume. While head coach Kyle Shanahan doesn't want to lose the game due to special teams, Mitch Wishnowsky and the punting unit could be the hidden key to slowing down Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers

Garafolo: Arden Key's development with 49ers will get him paid this offseason

By Kirk Larrabee
Jan 8

Arden Key is starting to develop into the pass rusher many scouts felt he'd become coming out of college, and as a result, Mike Garafolo of the NFL Network thinks he could be in for a solid payday after the season comes to an end. Key showed plenty of potential as a raw pass rush prospect at LSU, where he rocketed up mock draft boards after posting 55 tackles and 11 sacks in 11 games as a sophomore in 2016 before falling back a bit after a 33-tackle/four sack showing as a junior. Key slipped to Round 3 of the 2018 NFL Draft, where he was scooped up by the Raiders at pick 87 overall. He totaled 44 tackles and three sacks in 37 games with the Raiders before being waived in April of 2021, then landed a one-year deal with the 49ers, with whom he's found an important role as the

'It's about to get scary': Deebo Samuel says playoff-bound 49ers are 'dangerous'

By David Bonilla
Jan 9

Deebo Samuel had 95 receiving yards and 45 rushing yards in the San Francisco 49ers' thrilling 27-24 overtime road win over the Los Angeles Rams. He scores his seventh rushing touchdown of the season, the most in a single season by a wide receiver. Samuel even threw a 24-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Jauan Jennings. However, Samuel didn't singlehandedly lift the 49ers to the win. Everyone stepped up in the crucial playoff-impacting game. Brandon Aiyuk led the team in receiving yards with 107. Jennings had a career-high 94 receiving yards. Rookie Elijah Mitchell racked up 85 rushing yards. Quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo turned in a gutsy performance, playing with a torn ligament and chipped bone in his right thumb while completing 23-of-32 pass attempts for

49ers' Kyle Shanahan excited to get Trent Williams his first playoff win

By David Bonilla
Jan 16

Before Sunday, San Francisco 49ers tackle Trent Williams appeared in just two career playoff games. Both were losses with Washington. The nine-time Pro Bowl offensive lineman finally got to taste victory on Sunday. "I was so happy for Trent," head coach Kyle Shanahan said after the 49ers' 23-17 victory over the Dallas Cowboys. "I don't think people realize how much Trent enjoys playing football. Any time you've got guys that talented, which he is as talented, to me, as anyone on the planet, they can show up and do [things] better than most people. "What separates Trent is he enjoys it. I mean, he tries to get after people. He loves playing. When he practices, he practices only one way." Williams didn't play in the 49ers' regular-season finale against
