With the receiver pool rapidly shrinking and the 49ers losing Joshua Morgan to Washington, it seems odd that the team has not at least reached out to one of these guys.

49ers Notebook: QB Trey Lance excited to have Deebo back; WR Danny Gray says 'It's all coming together'; OL Spencer Burford keeps dancing
By Kirk Larrabee

The 49ers cut things fairly short when it came to post-practice media sessions on Saturday, but that doesn't mean there weren't any items of interest to pass along.
Quarterback Trey Lance and rookie wide receiver Danny Gray were the only players to speak to reporters after practice on Saturday, and each of them talked about a number of topics. Lance spoke about what he's seen from a number of veterans and young players on offense, while Gray discussed where he is in his development since being selected by the 49ers in Round 3 of the 2022 NFL Draft.
And there was another rookie on Saturday who put on a memorable show at practice, albeit in a unique way.
Here's a rundown of what was discussed Saturday afternoon.

Drake Jackson's usage might vary week to week; Young 49ers CBs have an opportunity vs. Packers
By David Bonilla

Maybe soon, Drake Jackson will become the complementary bookend to Nick Bosa that the San Francisco 49ers envisioned for Dee Ford. That was the hope when the team used its first selection in this year's draft, a second-round pick, on the defensive end out of USC.
DeMeco Ryans is in his second year as the 49ers' defensive coordinator. He is working to ensure young players like Jackson are prepared for the rigors of an NFL season. He also wants to put those players in the best position to succeed. Their success is the 49ers' success, after all. For now, it looks like the 49ers have Samson Ebukam penciled in as the starter opposite Bosa. That role should eventually land with Jackson.
"With Drake, he's coming along," Ryans told reporters after Wednesday's practice.

49ers may have two rookies starting in 2022

Once drafted, rookies have an uphill battle to become a starter. Usually, first and second-round picks are a lock to start, but with the San Francisco 49ers, that hasn't necessarily been the case unless your name is Nick Bosa (first-round pick, 2019) or Deebo Samuel (second-round pick, 2019).
In 2020, the 49ers selected two first-round picks, defensive tackle Javon Kinlaw and wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk, and their time was limited as rookies. Aiyuk became a starter due to injuries in the wide receivers room, and in 2021, his role was diminished when he started the season in head coach Kyle Shanahan's dog house, and he could barely crack the starting lineup. Kinlaw was considered the replacement for DeForest Buckner, but he couldn't stay on the field during his rookie and

Kyle Shanahan: 49ers playbook not changing for Trey Lance; Jauan Jennings tough to cover
By David Bonilla

Some expect the San Francisco 49ers offense to evolve with second-year quarterback Trey Lance at the helm. While that is probably true, it will not be by design. There won't be a drastic change to the playbook. Instead, Lance can extend plays and potentially get the football further down the field for some explosive plays.
Head coach Kyle Shanahan spoke with reporters before Saturday's practice and was asked about the playbook. Is he considering changing it to take advantage of Lance's unique athleticism?
"Not really at all," Shanahan responded. "I mean, you do the same stuff, and you just got a couple of more elements. When you have the threat of a running quarterback, that can change defenses. And when you see how that changes them, then you adjust to
