49ers held pre-draft meeting with Michigan RB Chris Evans, per report

By David Bonilla
Apr 14, 2021

The San Francisco 49ers are among several teams that have held pre-draft virtual meetings with former Michigan running back Chris Evans. The news was brought to us by Danish journalist Søren Hansen, who was the first to report the date of Justin Fields' second pro day. "Michigan's RB Chris Evans has had zoom calls with the 49ers, Bengals, Patriots, Vikings, Giants and Chiefs," reads a translated tweet by Hansen. "Did not get much playing time in college and sat out in 2019, but is a great back and a good receiver who had a strong Pro Day. Interesting name for the bottom of the third day of the draft." Evans (5-11, 211) carried the football 16 times for just 73 yards

Report: Trey Lance started working with John Beck at 49ers' request

By David Bonilla
Apr 18, 2021

Private coach John Beck, a former NFL quarterback who played for then-offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan in Washington, worked with quarterback Justin Fields of Ohio State this offseason. Beck remains close with Shanahan, and has been working with quarterback Trey Lance of North Dakota State in recent weeks. That is no coincidence. Fields and Lance are among the most likely prospects to be selected No. 3 overall by the San Francisco 49ers. ESPN's Dan Graziano reports that Lance has been working with Beck at the Niners' request. San Francisco provided Beck with a list of drills it wanted to see from Lance, which means it was heavily involved in the planning of Monday's

Former 49ers TE Jordan Reed is retiring, per report

Now

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, former San Francisco 49ers tight end Jordan Reed is retiring. Reed is an unrestricted free agent after spending last season with the Niners. He missed six games in 2020 due to an MCL sprain and ankle injury suffered in Week 3. Washington made Reed a third-round selection out of Florida in 2013. He registered 26 receptions for 231 yards with four touchdowns through 10 games in his one season with San Francisco. Former Pro Bowl TE Jordan Reed is retiring, sources say. A 2013 3rd-round pick by the Washington Football Team, Reed emerged as one of the game's best receiving TEs before

Mock Draft Roundup: The Mac Jones-to-49ers Chatter is Deafening

By Justin Wong
Apr 7, 2021

The 2021 NFL Draft is a three-day event from April 29th to May 1st that will be hosted in Cleveland, Ohio. A select number of draft prospects will be invited to Cleveland to walk across the stage and shake hands with NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell. The NFL Draft will also feature draft prospects participating remotely across the country. Last month, the 49ers arguably made their most aggressive move since trading Joe Montana, as they gave up multiple picks to jump from No. 12 to No. 3 in this year's NFL Draft. The first Mock Draft Roundup featured primarily defensive players but NFL pundits have now shifted their 49ers mock drafts to the quarterback position.
