In March, Brock Purdy underwent surgery to repair the torn ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) in his right elbow, an injury sustained during last season's NFC Championship Game. There was concern that the second-year quarterback might not recover in time to suit up for Week 1.
Purdy was back practicing by the start of training camp in July, well before the initial estimated timeline dictated.
The 23-year-old has been nothing short of remarkable in his sophomore NFL campaign. He boasts a league-leading 123.1 pass rating to go along with his impressive 72.1 completion percentage, 1,271 passing yards, and nine touchdowns, all without a single interception. That includes the four touchdown passes he delivered during Sunday night's 42-10 victory over the Dallas Cowboys.
Head coach Kyle Shanahan, speaking to reporters before Wednesday's practice, was asked if any lingering concerns remain surrounding Purdy's elbow.
"Looks good to me," Shanahan responded. "Yeah, there's no issues. That was the neat thing about that injury, that there was lots of questions until he started throwing, which was three or four months.
"But all the information on that injury is once he passed that area, as long as you brought him back at the right speed, most quarterbacks, once it heals, it heals."
Purdy remains undefeated in the regular season, riding a 10-game win streak. Only former Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, with 15 consecutive wins from 2004 to 2005, had a more impressive start to a career.
The 49ers are preparing for the Week 6 game against the Browns in Cleveland.
