CeeDee Lamb, boasting 309 yards and a touchdown, is the Dallas Cowboys' leading receiver. He'll face the fifth-ranked San Francisco 49ers defense on Sunday, a formidable foe. However, if there is one chink in the unit's armor, it may be the 17th-ranked pass defense, allowing 218.2 yards per game.
Is there any concern surrounding the 49ers' defensive backfield?
"We like our DBs," general manager John Lynch said Friday morning on KNBR's "Murph and Mac" show. "We think it's all coming together. Our [pass] rush and our coverage is starting to be coordinated, and we're really excited with our group. Isaiah Oliver, you talk about players of the week, as voted by our coaches, Isaiah Oliver was on there a couple weeks ago. I think he's getting better and better.
"[Deommodore Lenoir]'s had a solid season. Ambry [Thomas] was hurt a little bit, but Ambry's rounding himself back into form."
The 49ers also added longtime Cowboys cornerback Anthony Brown, who has undoubtedly provided some intel on this weekend's opponent. Brown is returning from a torn Achilles that landed him on Dallas' injured reserve list in December. He'll likely become a contributor soon.
"We got Anthony Brown who's coming, and he's going to be a key part of this thing, this equation in the back end," Lynch said. "[He's] started a lot of games in the NFL, working himself back from an Achilles at the end of last year. So we like our group."
While starting cornerback Charvarius Ward has battled a heel injury this week, the 49ers gave him the green light to play in Sunday's clash of NFC heavyweights at Levi's Stadium. The veteran cornerback didn't appear on Friday's game status/injury report.
"Mooney's okay," Lynch said. "If you've ever stepped on a stone with your heel, it doesn't feel good. He's kind of got the equivalent, like a heel bruise. And so we're just limiting some of the practice. But he's good to go and just trying to let the thing die down a little.
"But Mooney's ready to play, and I think he's really rounding into form. He's starting to play at a high level, and he's an important guy for our team."
