The New York Giants will be without Saquon Barkley when they face the San Francisco 49ers on Thursday night. According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the running back suffered an ankle sprain and will miss three weeks.
The good news for Giants fans is that the injury isn't as bad as initially believed. Barkley leads the Giants with 114 rushing yards, a rushing touchdown, and a receiving touchdown through the first two weeks of action. He has accounted for 155 total offensive yards this season.
The next man up for the Giants will be a familiar face to 49ers fans. Matt Breida will likely fill in for Barkley at Levi's Stadium on Thursday night. Breida has just three carries for 14 yards this season, his second with New York.

"I think, with Brandon, with these Thursday night games, they're a quick turnaround," Lynch said during a radio interview. "So he clearly got something irritated in his chest/shoulder area. He's working really hard to try to get ready.

The cornerback is now expected to miss six-to-eight weeks, according to Shanahan, but will not require surgery, and is expected to return at some point this season.
"I think it's like six to eight weeks, something like that," Shanahan said of Womack's timetable to return.

But Purdy finished the night having completed 25-of-37 passes for 310 yards, two touchdowns, and zero interceptions, with a passer rating of 111.3.
