The San Francisco 49ers didn't have the strongest preseason, going 1-2, with losses coming in a 34-7 blowout against the Las Vegas Raiders and an ugly 23-12 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers.
However, that didn't stop a certain analyst from tweaking his season projections and actually improving his initial record for the 49ers in 2023.
USA Today's Nate Davis updated his season standings after watching the preseason, bumping the 49ers from an 11-6 record to a 12-5 season, which has them winning the NFC West and tying with the Philadelphia Eagles for the top record in the conference.

The 49ers are seen with a 12-5 record, followed by the Seahawks, who Davis projects to go 10-7, with the Rams ensuing at 6-11, and the Cardinals finishing last at 2-15.
Davis had both the Eagles and the Dallas Cowboys dropping in his standings, which led to a tie between the 49ers and the former, meaning that the duo's Week 13 matchup would be the deciding factor in this scenario in regard to the top seed in the NFC.
At 12-5, the 49ers are tied for the second-best record in the NFL in Davis's projections, trailing just the New York Jets, whom Davis believes will go 13-4 this season.
