49ers Notebook: Deebo is no longer "awful"; Ronnie Bell makes a splash; J.J. Watt praises Niners; Captain Andrew Luck makes Levi's cameo

By Kirk Larrabee
Sep 22

Thursday night was a fun one at Levi's Stadium, where the San Francisco 49ers cruised to a 30-12 victory over the visiting New York Giants. It was a night that saw wide receiver Deebo Samuel declare himself as officially out of "awful" mode, running back Christian McCaffrey reach milestones, wide receiver Ronnie Bell create some lasting memories, and -- of all things -- Andrew Luck making a return to an NFL field (in full Civil War costume) to take part in a game of trivia. Let's recap all that and more in this version of 49ers Notebook. Not awful anymore Back in June, Deebo Samuel caught some attention with his honest description of his 2022 performance

49ers injury news: Deebo Samuel avoids serious injury, other updates from Kyle Shanahan

By David Bonilla
Sep 22

San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan jumped on a conference call with reporters on Friday afternoon, the day after the team's 30-12 win over the New York Giants. Shanahan provided several injury updates. Linebackers Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles and Dre Greenlaw emerged from Thursday night's game with low-ankle sprains. Both are day-to-day. The good news is that players have some extra time off before returning to work on Monday, when the 49ers begin preparing for the Arizona Cardinals. The only other player who was banged up in the Week 3 contest is wide receiver Deebo Samuel. The 49ers initially feared a rib injury, but

One reason why Deebo Samuel and the 49ers love Brock Purdy

By David Bonilla
Sep 19

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy wasn't perfect on Sunday against the Los Angeles Rams, yet the team was talented and disciplined enough to beat its division rivals 30-23. Purdy had arguably his worst game as a starter. The second-year quarterback earned an overall Pro Football Focus grade of 65.1, his lowest regular-season mark since Week 13 of 2022. He finished the game 17-of-25 for 206 yards and a passer rating of 93.1, a new regular-season career-low as a starter. The stat line might have been better had Purdy connected on a few passes to open receivers that were overthrown. After the game, when asked about the offense's shortcomings against the Rams, Purdy

Deebo Samuel to miss another practice ahead of 49ers vs. Cardinals

By David Bonilla

San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel continues to miss practices. He didn't participate in Monday's bonus session, and head coach Kyle Shanahan revealed that the offense's do-everything player won't participate in Wednesday's practice. The coach informed reporters that Samuel is working through rib and knee injuries. Following last Thursday night's game against the New York Giants, the 49ers feared Samuel may have sustained a serious rib injury. However, further examination revealed no break, and the receiver was just sore in the days after the game. The knee injury is a new update. "It was something we really didn't know until the next day, later in that day, just him being sore and stuff," Shanahan said of the knee injury. "He didn't
