Minnesota safety Jordan Howden is making his rounds visiting NFL teams ahead of this month's draft. According to Aaron Wilson of KPRC2 in Houston, one of those teams is the San Francisco 49ers. Wilson notes that Howden also had a private workout with the New Orleans Saints and plans to attend the Las Vegas Raiders' local pro day.

Howden registered 58 tackles, 3.5 tackles for a loss, five passes defensed, and two interceptions through 13 game appearances as a senior in 2022, per Sports Reference. He recorded 240 tackles, 5.5 tackles for a loss, 20 passes defensed, and four interceptions through his five collegiate seasons.

Howden is from San Diego, CA. He earned a pre-draft grade of 5.69 from, which equates to a "chance to make a roster or practice squad," per the site's 8-point grading scale.

At the NFL Scouting Combine, the 6' 0" and 203-pound Howden had a 40-time of 4.49 seconds, a vertical jump of 33.5 inches, a broad jump of 119 inches, and 14 reps in the bench press. His other measurables include an arm length of 32 1/4 inches and hands measuring 9 1/2 inches.

Lance Zierlein of wrote the following within his scouting report:

Howden is a football-savvy free safety with good instincts and play recognition but a lack of acceleration, which could create a plethora of problems for him on the pro level. He's quick to diagnose the run, but will need to improve his tackle technique. A lack of recovery juice could get him mismatched on the pro game, but he sees route combinations well when allowed to play as a two-deep safety. Howden has played a lot of football and can help on special teams but needs to prove himself as a tester at the NFL Scouting Combine.

By David Bonilla
Dec 1

The San Francisco 49ers are still exploring their safety options due to injuries to Talanoa Hufanga and George Odum. Tayler Hawkins is on the practice squad, and the team has added veteran Erik Harris. General manager John Lynch admits that there aren't many outside options at this point in the season. The silver lining is the depth added through the draft, with Ji'Ayir Brown selected from Penn State in the third round. Brown made a notable debut against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, stepping in for Hufanga, and made his first start against the Seattle Seahawks last week. The rookie's impressive performance has not gone unnoticed, earning a 76.8 overall Pro Football Focus grade against the Buccaneers and a 73.9 grade on Thanksgiving night. The 49ers are optimistic

Brock Purdy is gearing up to lead his San Francisco 49ers against the Seattle Seahawks for the second time in three games. This time, the Niners will play host, with Sunday's NFC West clash taking place at Levi's Stadium. Purdy has faced Seattle more than any other opponent in his NFL career, creating a familiarity with the division rival. Despite never losing to the Seahawks, the second-year quarterback emphasizes that he won't take any opponent for granted. "They got good players, some really good dudes that have a lot of experience and stuff, obviously with [LB] Bobby Wagner and then [DB Quandre] Diggs in the secondary, some boys that are playing corner that have got some experience now under their belts," Purdy told reporters after Thursday's

49ers' Christian McCaffrey offers scouting report on younger brother

By David Bonilla
Dec 7

Maybe the San Francisco 49ers will be in the market to draft another wide receiver soon. Suppose the front office seeks the opinion of running back Christian McCaffrey. In that case, he will likely be vocal in his recommendation—a certain Rice wideout named Luke McCaffrey, who happens to be his younger brother. "I would love to play with him one day," the older McCaffrey told reporters in the 49ers' locker room after Thursday's practice. "That would be the coolest thing ever. So I'm excited for him and his journey, and he's only going to get better." Luke, listed at 6-foot-2 and 200 pounds, recorded 68 receptions for 963 yards and 12 touchdowns this season, averaging 14.2 yards per catch. "Yeah, I've watched every snap of every game," Christian
