49ers awarded 7 compensatory picks in 2023 NFL Draft
The NFL awarded compensatory picks in the 2023 NFL Draft, and the San Francisco 49ers earned seven selections to add to their initial four, bringing their total to 11 picks.
According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the NFL presented San Francisco with the following compensatory picks.
- Round 3, No. 99 overall
- Round 3, No. 101
- Round 3, No. 102
- Round 5, No. 173
- Round 6, No. 216
- Round 7, No. 253
- Round 7, No. 255
The 49ers already had their own fifth- and seventh-round picks, and additional fifth- and seventh-round picks acquired via trades (Jeff Wilson, Jonas Griffith).
The three compensatory third-round picks come courtesy of the NFL's minority-hiring program for coaches or executives hired by other teams to serve as their head coach or general manager. They are for the departures of Robert Saleh, Martin Mayhew, Mike McDaniel, Ran Carthon, and DeMeco Ryans.
In 2022, San Francisco lost defensive linemen D.J. Jones and Arden Key, running back Raheem Mostert, offensive guard Laken Tomlinson, and cornerback K'Waun Williams in free agency. One of those players was offset by the addition of cornerback
Charvarius Ward in the NFL's formula for compensatory picks, resulting in the four additional picks for players lost.
Below is a list of the 49ers' 11 draft picks.
- Round 3, Pick 99 (Compensatory)
- Round 3, Pick 101 (Compensatory)
- Round 3, Pick 102 (Compensatory)
- Round 5, Pick 155 (via Dolphins)
- Round 5, Pick 164
- Round 5, Pick 173 (Compensatory)
- Round 6, Pick 216 (Compensatory)
- Round 7, Pick 222 (via Broncos)
- Round 7, Pick 247
- Round 7, Pick 253 (Compensatory)

49ers vs. Giants: Picks and Predictions
By Rohan Chakravarthi
Sep 21
The San Francisco 49ers will finally return to Levi's Stadium in Week 3 for their home opener, where they'll host the New York Giants in a Thursday Night Football showdown in hopes of improving to 3-0.
Heading into the game, the 49ers are seen as ten-point favorites, with the over/under placed at 44.5 points per game, as the Giants will be without star running back Saquon Barkley, left tackle Andrew Thomas, outside linebacker Azeez Ojulari, and left guard Ben Bredeson on the road.
In a weekly installment, I'll be dishing out some fun predictions on the game, rather than just providing an outright winner, although that will still continue in certain close games.
This week, I've got six intriguing predictions, with some for the 49ers and others for the
49ers RB Christian McCaffrey once again nominated for FedEx Ground NFL Player of the Week
Running back Christian McCaffrey has once again been nominated for the FedEx Ground Player of the Week, an award he won after Week 1. The latest nomination comes after the San Francisco 49ers' Week 2 30-23 win over the Los Angeles Rams.
McCaffrey rushed for 116 yards on 20 carries (5.8-yard average) and a rushing touchdown in the win over the Rams. His 268 rushing yards through the first two weeks of the season leads the NFL by an 88-yard margin.
Other nominees for this week's award are Miami running back Raheem Mostert, who rushed for 121 yards on 18 carries (6.7 average) and two touchdowns in Week 2, and Philadelphia running back D'Andre Swift, who rushed for 175 yards on 28 attempts (6.3 average) and a touchdown.

"They are basically fielding the NFL All-Pro team": Where the 49ers stand in Week 3 power rankings
The San Francisco 49ers have now won 12 consecutive regular-season games, just three games shy of tying the 15-game record set between the 1989 and 1990 seasons. Sunday's 30-23 win against the Los Angeles Rams may not have been the prettiest of victories, but Kyle Shanahan's squad improved to 2-0 on the season and sit alone atop the NFC West.
The 49ers managed to beat their division rival despite quarterback Brock Purdy having arguably his most unimpressive game as a starter. He finished the game 17-of-25 for 206 yards and a passer rating of 93.1, a new regular-season career-low as a starter.
Meanwhile, running back Christian McCaffrey leads the NFL with 268 rushing yards and ranks second only to wide receiver Justin Jefferson of the Minnesota Vikings in
John Lynch reveals 49ers' plan for NFL-leading salary cap space
Don't get your hopes up if you were waiting for the San Francisco 49ers to make a splashy mid-season move. The team restructured the contracts of tight end George Kittle, tackle Trent Williams, and defensive tackle Arik Armstead ahead of the season and now owns a league-leading $42.6 million in salary-cap space.
The team with the next highest amount of space is the Cleveland Browns with $34.4 million, and then the Arizona Cardinals with $14.2 million, per OverTheCap.com.
The Niners' money is earmarked for the future, though. There are no plans to bolster the already talented roster this season, short of something unexpected happening.
