49ers’ DB coach Cory Undlin’s contract expires, now free to pursue other opportunities

One San Francisco 49ers coach doesn't appear to be returning to the team in 2023, as passing game specialist and secondary coach Cory Undlin's contract expired, according to KPRC's Aaron Wilson, allowing him to pursue other opportunities regardless of the position.

Undlin, 50, had been with the 49ers for the past two seasons, following a stint with the Detroit Lions as their defensive coordinator in 2020, and is expected to receive interest from the Houston Texans for their defensive coordinator position.

Undlin is the only member of the 49ers 2022 defensive assistant staff to have been a coordinator in his previous years, hence why it's sensible that new head coach and former 49ers defensive coordinator DeMeco Ryans has shown an interest in his former colleague.

Undlin is one of a few candidates that have been linked to the position, as Wilson reported that the Texans are also interested in former Atlanta Falcons defensive coordinator Marquand Manuel and Washington Commanders secondary coach Chris Harris, who has been linked to the 49ers defensive coordinator position as well.

However, there is one name that won't be a part of that list: 49ers defensive line coach Kris Kocurek, who reportedly is remaining with the 49ers, although he could see a pay raise and/or a different job title.

By David Bonilla

Don't expect San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk to go anywhere anytime soon. On Monday morning, at the NFL owners' meetings in Arizona, general manager John Lynch made it clear the team plans to exercise the star player's fifth-year option. "Brandon's been excellent for us," Lynch told reporters. "I'd be shocked if we didn't. We still have some time. It's (the deadline) the day after the draft, I believe, we have to make those decisions. And so we're still discussing, but it probably makes sense to do that for Brandon. "He's a really good player. It's interesting when you're at these league functions, ownership meetings, combine, a lot of people ask about him. They really appreciate his game, and they see it ascending. And he's a guy we're very

Where the 49ers landed in ESPN's post-free-agency power ranking

In February, ESPN released its "way-too-early" power rankings following the Super Bowl. The San Francisco 49ers came in at No. 3, with the two Super Bowl participants, the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles, as the only teams ranked higher. Over a month later, with the bulk of significant free-agency moves in the books, not much has changed for head coach Kyle Shanahan's squad. The Eagles have dropped out of the top three, falling from the No. 2 spot to fourth, replaced by the Cincinnati Bengals. The Niners remain at No. 3. Quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo

Seven 49ers free agents still searching for an NFL team

The first week of NFL free agency is in the books, and there has been a lot of movement made by the San Francisco 49ers. The team added defensive tackle Javon Hargrave, quarterback Sam Darnold, and others to the roster. As is the case every year, departures are inevitable. Gone are some high-profile names like quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo (Raiders) and tackle Mike McGlinchey (Broncos). Key players like cornerback Emmanuel Moseley (Lions) and offensive lineman Daniel Brunskill (Titans) have also found new NFL homes. San Francisco has tendered a one-year deal to exclusive-rights free agent wide receiver Jauan Jennings. In addition, the following eight 49ers restricted or unrestricted free agents have returned to the team. C Jake
