The San Francisco 49ers are preparing for their Week 16 contest against the Washington Commanders on Saturday at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, California.

You won't see Javon Kinlaw's name in the participation report below. That's because the defensive tackle remains on the injured reserve list, and the 49ers aren't obligated to share his status.

The 49ers opened Kinlaw's practice window, and the defender returned to the practice field on Wednesday. He has not played since Week 3 due to a setback in his surgically reconstructed knee.

Cornerback Charvarius Ward, who landed in the concussion protocol following last week's game against the Seattle Seahawks, has not been wearing a blue no-contact jersey, indicating that he is making significant progress and could be ready to go this weekend.

Brock Purdy was reportedly throwing well during the portion of practice that is open to the media. The rookie quarterback played through oblique and rib injuries against the Seahawks. However, he was still a limited participant on Wednesday.

Defensive end Kerry Hyder returned to practice after missing Tuesday's session.

Reporters spotted wide receiver Deebo Samuel getting some light work on a side field. He is not expected to play on Saturday.

"I think this week, there would be a chance if we were that desperate," head coach Shanahan said of Samuel on Tuesday. "But I'm not even looking into it this week, and we'll see how he is next Monday and make that decision."

Below are Wednesday's practice participation reports for both the 49ers and Commanders, which were provided by the 49ers Communications staff.
