49ers-Dolphins Injury Updates: Jimmy Garoppolo out with foot injury, replaced by rookie Brock Purdy

Dec 4, 2022 at 1:27 PM--

The San Francisco 49ers are playing the Miami Dolphins at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, California. While running back Elijah Mitchell was placed on injured reserve this weekend, and guard Spencer Burford (ankle) was among the 49ers' four inactive players, the team entered the game relatively healthy.

That was until an injury to the 49ers' starting quarterback, Jimmy Garoppolo.

Below are the 49ers-Dolphins in-game injury updates.

QB Jimmy Garoppolo (foot, out)

Garoppolo exited the game after the 49ers' first offensive drive. Garoppolo was sacked and then carted to the locker room with an ankle injury. That left rookie quarterback Brock Purdy to enter the game.

San Francisco announced that Garoppolo is "questionable" to return.

Update: Garoppolo has been ruled out due to a foot injury, not an ankle injury, as initially reported.

DT Hassan Ridgeway (pectoral, out)

Hassan Ridgeway was shaken up in the fourth quarter, and walked off the field under his own power but favoring his right arm. Later, the defensive lineman left for the locker room.

San Francisco announced that Ridgeway is "questionable" to return with a shoulder injury.

Update: The 49ers announced that Ridgeway suffered a pectoral injury and has been ruled out.

The Philadelphia Eagles might have been the better team in the NFC Championship Game on Sunday. But were they 31-7 better than the San Francisco 49ers? Probably not. Of course, we are all left wondering what might have happened had rookie quarterback Brock Purdy not been hurt in the first quarter. The 49ers felt they had prepared a great game plan for their bout with the Eagles. Unfortunately, that quickly got thrown out the window. "We were really excited for today, and we really wanted an opportunity to play that team," head coach Kyle Shanahan said after the game. "They played great, and they did good things, but we wish we had a little bit better

By David Bonilla
Jan 31

Tom Brady, whose name is bound to come up once or twice in the coming months in connection with the San Francisco 49ers, voiced his opinion on Brock Purdy's injury and its impact on the NFC Championship Game. "Injuries play a role in every game," Brady told Jim Gray on the Let's Go! podcast, per Pro Football Talk, "and your margin of error changes quite a bit. Obviously, San Fran had, you know, really no chance to compete yesterday. That was tough just to see that happen, but at the same time, it's the reality of the sport. Philly deserved it. They had an incredible season. They played well on defense. They forced that
