49ers-Dolphins Injury Updates: Jimmy Garoppolo out with foot injury, replaced by rookie Brock Purdy
The San Francisco 49ers are playing the Miami Dolphins at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, California. While running back
Elijah Mitchell was
placed on injured reserve this weekend, and guard
Spencer Burford (ankle) was among the
49ers' four inactive players, the team entered the game relatively healthy.
That was until an injury to the 49ers' starting quarterback,
Jimmy Garoppolo.
Below are the 49ers-Dolphins in-game injury updates.
QB Jimmy Garoppolo (foot, out)
Garoppolo exited the game after the 49ers' first offensive drive. Garoppolo was sacked and then carted to the locker room with an ankle injury. That left rookie quarterback
Brock Purdy to enter the game.
San Francisco announced that Garoppolo is "questionable" to return.
Update: Garoppolo has been ruled out due to a foot injury, not an ankle injury, as initially reported.
DT Hassan Ridgeway (pectoral, out)
Hassan Ridgeway was shaken up in the fourth quarter, and walked off the field under his own power but favoring his right arm. Later, the defensive lineman left for the locker room.
San Francisco announced that Ridgeway is "questionable" to return with a shoulder injury.
Update: The 49ers announced that Ridgeway suffered a pectoral injury and has been ruled out.

Brock Purdy impressing Kyle Shanahan as 49ers rookie QB seeks to enter NFL history books
The San Francisco 49ers are now 15-0 when they tie or win the turnover battle. Rookie quarterback Brock Purdy's last interception came on January 1 against the Las Vegas Raiders. He's had moments since then that have come close to resulting in turnovers, but they remained misses by opposing defenses.
In Purdy's two playoff games, including Sunday's 19-12 win over the Dallas Cowboys, the quarterback has failed to throw an interception or lose a fumble. He has taken care of the football, and head coach Kyle Shanahan credits that as one of the reasons why the 49ers' impressive 12-game win streak could continue.
"Yes, he's been unbelievable with that," Shanahan said via a conference call on Monday. "I think that's the number one thing he's done, and to be
John Lynch: 49ers rookie Brock Purdy unfazed by pressure
Brock Purdy is a rookie. He was a seventh-round draft pick. In fact, he was the last overall pick in the draft. I'm just reminding you of that in case you forgot. After all, watching the 23-year-old San Francisco 49ers quarterback on the field, it's easy to forget that he has started just six NFL games.
One of those starts was this past weekend's playoff win over the Seattle Seahawks. Next, he'll face the Dallas Cowboys in the Divisional Round.
Purdy has taken the NFL by storm, becoming one of the more intriguing storylines of the season, given he was draft pick No. 262—labeled as "Mr. Irrelevant."
It's tough to win in the NFL. Yes, Purdy has a talented supporting cast around him, but he is still a rookie. So what he is doing with his
Tom Brady has message for 49ers rookie Brock Purdy
San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy could become the first rookie quarterback to start a Super Bowl. But first, he'll need to get past the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday. Purdy will become just the fifth rookie quarterback to start a conference championship game since 1970. The other four lost their starts.
The other quarterbacks were Shaun King of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (1999), Ben Roethlisberger of the Pittsburgh Steelers (2004), Joe Flacco of the Baltimore Ravens (2008), and Mark Sanchez of the New York Jets (2009). Three of those quarterbacks were first-round picks. King was a second-round pick.

Cowboys coach on 49ers' Brock Purdy: "He's not a rookie anymore in our eyes"
Brock Purdy is preparing to start his second-ever NFL playoff game. Sunday's Divisional Round matchup between his San Francisco 49ers and the Dallas Cowboys will only be the rookie quarterback's seventh career NFL start and his eighth game appearance with extended playing time.
Purdy took over for an injured Jimmy Garoppolo during Week 13. At the time, the 49ers were riding a four-game win streak. The winning continued with Purdy under center. San Francisco's last loss came on October 23, 2022, and the team has won 11 consecutive games since.
Purdy may be a rookie, but he has played with the poise and skill of a savvy veteran. He has done everything asked of him, shedding the "Mr. Irrelevant" label that came with being the last overall pick in the 2022 NFL
