49ers-Bears: George Kittle day-to-day with groin injury; 6 team captains revealed

Sep 7, 2022 at 1:10 PM--

San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan provided some injury updates ahead of Wednesday's practice. The most concerning new development might be that tight end George Kittle is dealing with a groin injury and is day-to-day. He obviously will not join his teammates on the practice field on Wednesday.

How serious is the injury?

"I'm not sure," Shanahan responded. "I was hoping it would be good today. He did a little on Monday and not feeling good today, so we'll have to see day by day."

Offensive lineman Daniel Brunskill also won't practice as he continues to try to return from his hamstring injury.

Team captains

Shanahan also revealed the team captains for 2022. They are listed below.

This is Bosa's first season as a captain and Ward's second. The others have been captains with the 49ers for three seasons, except for Kittle, who has been a captain for five seasons.

Trey Lance not being named a captain

Shanahan was asked about quarterback Trey Lance, the team's starter moving forward, not being a captain. The coach revealed that Lance came in seventh in the voting for team captains.

"I just didn't want to put seven on there," Shanahan said. "Deebo (Samuel) was eight. ... We just wanted to go with six. They don't allow eight to the coin toss, I don't believe. It's also his first year of starting for us. There's not many rookies who end up being the captains. I know this is his second year, but he's a rookie for us in terms of this is his first time being our starting quarterback."

As for Lance himself, he doesn't have an issue with being left off the exclusive list.

"Obviously, that's a goal of mine," Lance said, "but I don't think you can look at any six of those guys and be like, 'That guy's a bozo,' because those guys have played football at a very, very high level. So yeah, the situations are different. I voted for every single one of those guys, so I think each and every one of them deserves it. But yeah, it's definitely a goal of mine moving forward. But those guys have all proved it, and that's what this league is all about."

49ers-Saints Injury Report: No Arik Armstead at practice; Deebo Samuel, Samson Ebukam limited

By David Bonilla
Nov 23

The San Francisco 49ers are preparing for their Week 12 contest against the New Orleans Saints on Sunday at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, California. The 49ers held a light practice on Wednesday, a precaution given the quick turnaround from Monday night's game in Mexico City against the Arizona Cardinals. The team didn't arrive back in the Bay Area until 6:15 a.m. on Tuesday and pushed the start time for Wednesday's practice back to 4:03 p.m. "We're starting a lot later, and we'll just walk-through today," head coach Kyle Shanahan said before practice. "And we've got to mix in Thanksgiving a little bit on Thursday, so we'll dial things back a little bit for that also." Wednesday's practice took place inside Levi's Stadium, something that doesn't

The San Francisco 49ers are preparing for their Week 12 contest against the New Orleans Saints on Sunday at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, California. The media did not have access to watch the Thanksgiving practice. The team gave them the day off due to the holiday. That means there are no observations to report from the Thursday session, which was a lighter walk-through. Reporters will return to watch the last practice of the week, which begins on Friday at 12:18 p.m. PT. On Wednesday, the 49ers were without defensive lineman Arik Armstead, and wide receiver Deebo Samuel and defensive end Samson Ebukam were limited. That remained the case on Thursday. Tackle Trent Williams returned from his veteran day off. Below are Thursday's

The San Francisco 49ers are preparing for their Week 12 contest against the New Orleans Saints on Sunday at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, California. Wide receiver Deebo Samuel was limited this week due to a hamstring injury, putting his availability against the Saints into doubt. The 49ers have listed Samuel as "questionable" for Sunday. Head coach Kyle Shanahan noted that the wideout's current injury is unrelated to the previous hamstring injury from earlier in the season. Defensive lineman Arik Armstead returned to practice on Friday, the final session of the week. Jordan Schultz of The Score first reported Armstead's return but also stated that the

49ers-Saints: Kyle Shanahan provides details on Deebo Samuel's injury

San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel was limited all week during practices as the team prepares for its Week 12 matchup against the New Orleans Saints. When head coach Kyle Shanahan spoke with reporters on Wednesday, rattling off the names of those who would not practice or be limited, Samuel's name was absent. It wasn't until the official practice participation report was released that the wideout's injury was revealed to reporters. Samuel emerged from Monday night's win over the Arizona Cardinals with a hamstring injury. Although, it wasn't immediately known. And the injury was different than the Week 7 hamstring injury that occurred against the Kansas City Chiefs and kept him out the next week against the Los Angeles Rams. "No, it was something
