It's September 1. There are only 10 days until the San Francisco 49ers open their regular season against the Chicago Bears at Soldier Field.
Quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo is participating in his first practice since last season's playoffs. Until now, he had been throwing on the side, absent from team meetings, and lacked a playbook. That's because no one felt he would be around this long. Most expected San Francisco to trade the veteran by now. That changed on Monday when Garoppolo and the 49ers agreed to a one-year contract restructure, keeping the quarterback in Santa Clara in 2022.
Garoppolo will serve as second-year quarterback Trey Lance's backup. Below are some videos from the veteran's first practice back. Reporters were allowed to observe until team drills started.
