49ers’ George Kittle wishes NFL fans were more like college football fans

Jun 23, 2022 at 11:07 AM--

San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle joined the Bussin' with the Boys podcast this week, joined by Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen. Both are in Tennessee for Kittle's Tight End University. Allen is among several quarterbacks on hand to throw footballs to the large contingent of tight ends.

During the lengthy conversation on the Barstool Sports podcast, the topic of fanbases came up. Allen has played in front of Bills Mafia his entire career, while Kittle has been among The Faithful. The two groups create very different atmospheres heading into game days, leading Kittle to reflect on his college playing days at Iowa.

Kittle sounded in awe of Buffalo fans, who are eager to show their support of the Bills at every opportunity, even in blistering cold weather.

"I get chills thinking about it," Allen commented. "... It's pretty special."

Kittle asked Allen about the days leading to a game and the atmosphere in the area.

"There's an energy," Allen responded.

The 49ers tight end loved hearing that, prompting him to reflect on his NFL experience playing in Santa Clara.

"Santa Clara, we'll have fans and stuff outside the games, when you leave practices, and stuff like that," Kittle shared. "When we're in San Francisco, for sure, there's a buzz in the city of San Francisco. But it's a little different where we live. We're in the heart of Silicon Valley. A lot of people don't really care about the Niners. They don't care about football. A lot of people don't even know what it is out there."

The 49ers played on the southern border of San Francisco when the team's home venue was Candlestick Park. The Niners moved to Levi's Stadium in 2014.

The 49ers drafted Kittle in 2017, so he has never experienced playing games closer to the heart of San Francisco. However, at Iowa, he loved the region's passion for Hawkeyes football.

"Going into a big game, night game, starting Wednesday, you would just see Iowa football jerseys up and down the streets, and everyone is just drinking in the streets, ready to roll. Then, when you pull into the stadium, like Saturday afternoon—everybody's there. There's more people outside than there are inside. I don't know. That's how I think football should be. But that's how I imagine Buffalo is."

Allen added that Sundays in Buffalo are for the Bills, indicating that the atmosphere in the area is similar to what the 49ers tight end described as his collegiate experience.

"That's awesome," Kittle responded.

Samson Ebukam wishes he started NFL career with 49ers, expects 'big things' from Drake Jackson

By David Bonilla
Aug 1

Samson Ebukam is entering his second season with the San Francisco 49ers after spending his first four with the Los Angeles Rams. The 27-year-old pass rusher racked up 4.5 sacks last season, recording 3.5 in his final five regular-season games. In the playoffs, he also reached opposing quarterbacks three times (0.5 vs. DAL, 1.0 vs. GB, and 0.5 vs. LAR). Ebukam believes he improved as the season progressed because he slowly became more comfortable transitioning back to his natural position of defensive end after years of being misused. The 2021 season was his third consecutive with 4.5 regular-season sacks. So what are the defender's goals for the upcoming season? "Definitely getting more than that," Ebukam admitted to reporters after Monday's practice. "I know

Vernon Davis on 49ers TE George Kittle: "His skill set is unmatched"

By David Bonilla

Vernon Davis remains the all-time leading receiver among San Francisco 49ers tight ends. His 5,640 receiving yards over his 10 NFL seasons with the team ranks sixth in 49ers history. Hot on his tail is current tight end George Kittle, who has amassed 4,489 receiving yards in five years. Kittle is likely just a couple of seasons away from surpassing Davis in the 49ers record books. Davis was at training camp in Santa Clara this past week and was asked about Kittle. Below is what one great 49ers tight end had to say about the other. "George Kittle is unbelievable," Davis told Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area. "He's a wonderful talent. Every skill position, especially the tight end, they have different attributes. George Kittle, he has his ability to be able to

George Kittle, Nick Bosa break down how Trey Lance will elevate the 49ers offense

By David Bonilla

Tight end George Kittle is excited about the potential of the San Francisco 49ers offense in 2022. He knows Trey Lance at quarterback will open things up for an already creative play-caller like Kyle Shanahan. The always enthusiastic Kittle was among several 49ers players who joined KNBR after Tuesday's practice. Of course, the conversation eventually drifted toward the team's new starting quarterback. The tight end loves what he's seen from Lance compared to where the 22-year-old was just a year ago. "Honestly, my favorite thing about Trey right now is that I've just seen him get better, honestly," Kittle said on the Papa & Lund show. "From where he was last year in OTAs to where he was at training camp last year, to throughout the season last year, to even

Why George Kittle loves going against Jimmie Ward; 49ers safety forecasts 'Pick City'

San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle joined KNBR after Tuesday's practice and started the conversation by praising a defensive teammate—Jimmie Ward. Ward might be the most underrated player on a defense boasting stars Nick Bosa and Fred Warner. The 49ers tight end knows how valuable the veteran safety is for the team, though. "I said [in a previous interview] Jimmie Ward might be one of the most underrated players in the NFL," Kittle said on the Papa & Lund show. "... When it's man coverage, you don't want Jimmie Ward on you because he's quick, he's physical, and he's really, really fast. He's got great hands, and he knows how to hold without getting holding calls. He's very good at that. "I'm very blessed to be able to go against
