CBS Sports writer Pete Prisco released his annual
list of the top 100 NFL players. Defensive tackle Aaron Donald of the Super Bowl champion Los Angeles Rams sits atop the 2022 ranking. He is followed by quarterbacks Aaron Rodgers (Packers), Patrick Mahomes (Chiefs), and Josh Allen (Bills).
You must go down to the No. 8 spot to find the first San Francisco 49ers representative on the list. Below is every 49ers player within Prisco's ranking and what the CBS Sports writer had to say about each.
No. 8 - OT Trent Williams
Williams moves up eight spots from last year's ranking.
"At the age of 33 -- he turns 34 in July -- he is coming off a season where he was the NFL's best offensive lineman. He is great as a pass protector and a big part of their run-heavy offense with his ability to move people off the ball."
No. 12 - DE Nick Bosa
Bosa moves up five spots from last year's ranking.
"He finished fourth in the league in sacks with 15.5 after playing in just two game in 2020 after tearing an ACL. Bosa is one of those edge rushers who can take over a game. He plays with speed and power."
No. 15 - TE George Kittle
Kittle moves up seven spots from last year's ranking.
"In terms of being the best all-round tight end, he is it. He can run, catch and block. There aren't many who can do all three at the level he does it. He was limited to 14 games last season, but still caught 71 passes."
No. 26 - WR Deebo Samuel
Samuel was not on Prisco's list last year.
"He caught 77 passes last season with six touchdowns and nine catches of 40 yards or more, tying him for the league lead. He also lined up at running back, rushing for 365 yards and eight touchdowns. He can do it all for the 49ers offense."
No. 38 - LB Fred Warner
Warner falls seven spots from last year's ranking.
"His ability to run and chase runners down and cover a lot of ground in the passing game makes him a prototype for the current game. He flashes on tape when you watch the 49ers."
No. 80 - DL Arik Armstead
Armstead was not on Prisco's list last year.
"He is coming off a six-sack season where he showed that he is a big, powerful end who can push the pocket. When the 49ers traded DeForest Buckner two years ago and kept Armstead, some wondered why. He showed why last season."

Which 49ers players landed in PFF's position-by-position rankings?
Pro Football Focus has been spending the offseason ranking NFL positions. In addition to being a traditional player ranking, the analytics site grouped the players by tiers. Let's look at where the San Francisco 49ers fell within each positional ranking.
Quarterbacks

Ranked: Jimmy Garoppolo, Trey Lance
The first 49ers quarterback listed is Jimmy Garoppolo, the No. 16 quarterback in the ranking. He falls into Pro Football Focus' Tier D. The tier is actually divided into two, the first labeled "Play-Action Merchants - Propped up by Scheme." That is the category in which Garoppolo sits, along with Ryan Tannehill (14), Kirk Cousins (15),
PFF: 49ers QB Trey Lance one of players under most pressure to perform in Year 2

While there are several success stories of rookies flourishing immediately in the NFL, there are certain players, especially quarterbacks, whose learning curves require some more seasoning.
Take Peyton Manning, who threw for 28 interceptions in his rookie year before becoming one of the best quarterbacks of all time, as an example.
Earlier this week, PFF named ten players from the 2021 NFL Draft class that are under the most pressure to perform in Year 2, and unsurprisingly, San Francisco 49ers quarterback Trey Lance was amongst the group.
Lance, who was selected third overall in the 2021 NFL Draft, played
49ers' Kyle Shanahan praises Frank Gore: "He's right there with the top backs of all time"
There is great respect between the San Francisco 49ers, Frank Gore, and the fans. On June 2, the legendary running back signed a one-day contract with the 49ers, officially retiring with the team that drafted him in 2005.
Gore continues to cheer for his former squad, even doing so while playing elsewhere in the NFL. He has a strong relationship with team CEO Jed York and loves The Faithful. The fans love him back.
Count 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan among the many who hold a great deal of respect for everything Gore accomplished during his 16 years in the NFL.
"He's right there with the top backs of all time," Shanahan said during the 49ers' State of the Franchise event. "Everyone can go through your backs and pick your one, and I think
49ers' Deebo Samuel, George Kittle among PFF's top offensive duos
The San Francisco 49ers would probably love to see Brandon Aiyuk emerge as one of the top receivers in the NFL. That would make an Aiyuk-Deebo Samuel duo a headache for opposing defenses. Until then, the 49ers have two impressive offensive weapons in Samuel and tight end George Kittle. That's good news for second-year quarterback Trey Lance, who is expected to be the team's Week 1 starter after starting only two games as a rookie.
The Samuel-Kittle pairing ranks among Pro Football Focus' top five offensive duos heading into the 2022 season. Kambui Bomani explains that both controlling the middle of the field at an elite level landed them within the
