These six 49ers players landed on Pete Prisco’s NFL Top 100

Jun 15, 2022 at 8:37 AM--

CBS Sports writer Pete Prisco released his annual list of the top 100 NFL players. Defensive tackle Aaron Donald of the Super Bowl champion Los Angeles Rams sits atop the 2022 ranking. He is followed by quarterbacks Aaron Rodgers (Packers), Patrick Mahomes (Chiefs), and Josh Allen (Bills).

You must go down to the No. 8 spot to find the first San Francisco 49ers representative on the list. Below is every 49ers player within Prisco's ranking and what the CBS Sports writer had to say about each.

No. 8 - OT Trent Williams

Williams moves up eight spots from last year's ranking.

"At the age of 33 -- he turns 34 in July -- he is coming off a season where he was the NFL's best offensive lineman. He is great as a pass protector and a big part of their run-heavy offense with his ability to move people off the ball."

No. 12 - DE Nick Bosa

Bosa moves up five spots from last year's ranking.

"He finished fourth in the league in sacks with 15.5 after playing in just two game in 2020 after tearing an ACL. Bosa is one of those edge rushers who can take over a game. He plays with speed and power."

No. 15 - TE George Kittle

Kittle moves up seven spots from last year's ranking.

"In terms of being the best all-round tight end, he is it. He can run, catch and block. There aren't many who can do all three at the level he does it. He was limited to 14 games last season, but still caught 71 passes."

No. 26 - WR Deebo Samuel

Samuel was not on Prisco's list last year.

"He caught 77 passes last season with six touchdowns and nine catches of 40 yards or more, tying him for the league lead. He also lined up at running back, rushing for 365 yards and eight touchdowns. He can do it all for the 49ers offense."

No. 38 - LB Fred Warner

Warner falls seven spots from last year's ranking.

"His ability to run and chase runners down and cover a lot of ground in the passing game makes him a prototype for the current game. He flashes on tape when you watch the 49ers."

No. 80 - DL Arik Armstead

Armstead was not on Prisco's list last year.

"He is coming off a six-sack season where he showed that he is a big, powerful end who can push the pocket. When the 49ers traded DeForest Buckner two years ago and kept Armstead, some wondered why. He showed why last season."

However, he knows a thing or two about great quarterbacks. He spent those four seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs, watching one of the best in the game—Patrick Mahomes. Of course, reporters wanted to ask Ward to compare Lance to Mahomes. The talented cornerback offered a humorous response. "Patrick, both of them going to be great quarterbacks," Ward answered.
