The San Francisco 49ers announced that the team has activated quarterback Nate Sudfeld from the practice squad as a COVID-19 replacement. The move comes after starter Jimmy Garoppolo missed the entire week of practice due to a thumb injury.
Should Garoppolo be unable to play, rookie Trey Lance will start on Sunday against the Houston Texans. Sudfeld would likely serve as his backup.
After the Texans game, San Francisco closes out the season in Week 18 against the Los Angeles Rams.
