The San Francisco 49ers are preparing for their Week 9 contest against the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, California.
Cardinals quarterback
Kyler Murray missed his second consecutive day of practice. He is dealing with an ankle injury. If he cannot play on Sunday, the 49ers defense will face quarterback Colt McCoy.
49ers safety Jimmie Ward missed practice. The team expects him to miss one to two weeks with a quad injury.
Wide receiver
Deebo Samuel returned to practice but was limited. He is dealing with a calf injury. Head coach Kyle Shanahan said he would be "surprised" if the team's leading receiver didn't play on Sunday. Earlier, it was
reported that Samuel was not participating during practice. He did get some work in, though.
Tackle
Trent Williams and running back
Elijah Mitchell also returned to practice. Mitchell, dealing with a rib injury, wore a blue no-contact jersey.
Defensive end Dee Ford appears on the participation report with a back injury for the first time since the week leading to the season opener. He was still a full participant that week. Ford was inactive this past weekend, but that was due to a concussion. He did not appear on Wednesday's injury report.
Tight end
George Kittle, running back Jeff Wilson Jr., and kicker Robbie Gould continue to practice. However, they are on injury lists, which means the 49ers aren't required to report how much they practice until activated.
Below are Thursday's practice participation reports for both the 49ers and Cardinals, which were provided by the 49ers Communications staff.

49ers' Deebo Samuel expresses frustration with fans on social media
Deebo Samuel is experiencing firsthand the toxicity that can sometimes infest social media. Or perhaps he's simply being reminded of it. On Wednesday, the San Francisco 49ers wide receiver took to X (formerly Twitter) to vent his frustration with a particular segment of fans who likely criticized how he spends his time off.

49ers' George Kittle, Charvarius Ward underwent surgeries; Dre Greenlaw aiming for Week 1 return
According to general manager John Lynch, San Francisco 49ers cornerback Charvarius Ward wasn't the sole player to undergo core muscle surgery this offseason. Lynch disclosed to reporters at the NFL owners meetings on Monday that All-Pro tight end George Kittle also had the procedure.
However, the silver lining is that both players are expected to be fully cleared for training camp, set to commence at the end of July.
George Kittle and Charvarius Ward both had core muscle surgery this offseason and will be back, fully cleared, for
49ers Notebook: Crucial offseason for Purdy; O-line confidence; Shanahan on new kickoff rule, Dobbs signing; Hufanga eyes training camp return
San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan doesn't have to field as many quarterback questions as he did a year ago after Brock Purdy underwent surgery, the arrival of Sam Darnold, and the uncertainty surrounding the future of Trey Lance. The quarterback situation is clearer now than it has been in recent years.
For Purdy, this offseason holds significant importance. It marks the first time he can focus on on-field improvement during minicamps, OTAs, and training camp. While he had this opportunity as a rookie in 2022, he was buried on the depth chart, limiting his practice reps.
Last year, Purdy was still recovering from surgery to repair the torn ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) in his right elbow. He didn't get to throw to his teammates until training camp in
