49ers-Cardinals Injury Report: Jimmy Garoppolo, Trent Williams, George Kittle don’t practice

Oct 6, 2021 at 3:45 PM--

The San Francisco 49ers are preparing for their Week 5 contest against the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona.

Today's practice report looked very much like what head coach Kyle Shanahan previewed beforehand. There was no Jimmy Garoppolo, as the quarterback continues to recover from a calf injury.

"I mean, it could go up to game time," Garoppolo said before practice about Sunday's game status. "We've done it before up to game time. And it's really just about getting the mental reps while I can out there today, see where I'm at tomorrow and everything."

There was no Trent Williams, who, like Garoppolo, was injured this past weekend against the Seattle Seahawks.

San Francisco continues to be cautious with tight end George Kittle due to a calf issue that has plagued him in recent weeks. He did not practice.

Cornerback Josh Norman made some progress. He didn't practice last week and was inactive on Sunday. However, Norman was limited today. The next two days should be very telling when it comes to his potential availability this weekend.

Below are Wednesday's practice participation reports for both the 49ers and Cardinals, which were provided by the 49ers Communications staff.

The San Francisco 49ers haven't asked Jimmy Garoppolo to carry the team over the last handful of games, and the veteran quarterback has been playing his best football of the season. On Sunday, he had another solid outing as the 49ers dominated the Jacksonville Jaguars, winning 30-10. Garoppolo finished 16-of-22 passing for 176 yards, two touchdowns, and no interceptions. His 126.3 passer rating was his second-highest of the season, with his highest mark coming in the team's last game, a 31-10 victory over the Los Angeles Rams. "I thought he played well," head coach Kyle Shanahan said after the game. "He was very efficient. He made the right plays. [He] protected the ball, most importantly. He did what he had to do for us to win." Garoppolo has thrown

49ers OT Trent Williams reflects on his receiver debut, which was years in the making

Trent Williams as a receiver? That's about the last thing anyone expected to see from the San Francisco 49ers against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday, but that's exactly what happened at one point during the third quarter. The 49ers were up 20-3 en route to a 30-10 win over the Jaguars when Williams' number was called on a 3rd-and-Goal from the 1-yard line. Williams reported as an eligible receiver, after which quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo made it a point to throw the ball his way. The end result was an incomplete pass, but Williams finally got the chance he had been hoping head coach Kyle Shanahan would give him ever since he was a rookie with Washington in 2010. "For at least 12 years. We finally got it in though," Williams said Sunday. Shanahan
