Sep 19, 2021 at 11:30 AM--

The San Francisco 49ers took the lead against the Philadelphia Eagles at the end of the first half after quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo hit second-year wide receiver Jauan Jennings for an 11-yard touchdown. Not only was it the 24-year-old wideout's first NFL touchdown, but it was also his first career catch in the NFL.

The play capped off a 12-play, 97-yard drive.

The 49ers head into halftime, holding onto a 7-3 lead at Lincoln Financial Field. San Francisco made Jennings a seventh-round draft pick out of Tennessee last year.

Kyle Shanahan: 49ers playbook not changing for Trey Lance; Jauan Jennings tough to cover

By David Bonilla

Some expect the San Francisco 49ers offense to evolve with second-year quarterback Trey Lance at the helm. While that is probably true, it will not be by design. There won't be a drastic change to the playbook. Instead, Lance can extend plays and potentially get the football further down the field for some explosive plays. Head coach Kyle Shanahan spoke with reporters before Saturday's practice and was asked about the playbook. Is he considering changing it to take advantage of Lance's unique athleticism? "Not really at all," Shanahan responded. "I mean, you do the same stuff, and you just got a couple of more elements. When you have the threat of a running quarterback, that can change defenses. And when you see how that changes them, then you adjust to

Dodgers broadcasting legend and voice of "The Catch," Vin Scully, dies at 94

The sports world lost an icon on Tuesday. Legendary sports broadcaster Vin Scully died at the age of 94. Scully, best known as the long-time voice of the Los Angeles Dodgers, also called other sports during his illustrious career. That includes one game remembered by Bay Area fans as the greatest moment in San Francisco 49ers history. Scully and Hank Stram called the 1981 NFC Championship Game for CBS, a matchup between the 49ers and the Dallas Cowboys. Scully is the voice heard in replays of "The Catch," the throw from quarterback Joe Montana to wide receiver Dwight Clark, launching a

Trey Lance praises 'big bro' Jimmy Garoppolo's handling of 49ers QB situation

Trey Lance is the starting quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers. That job belonged to Jimmy Garoppolo since a mid-season trade in 2017 sent him from the New England Patriots to the Bay Area. Garoppolo's time with the 49ers appears to be over. He remains on the roster, but even that seems to just be a formality at this point. Garoppolo will likely be on another team when the 2022 regular season officially kicks off in September. The 49ers invested heavily in Lance, trading up to the No. 3 overall pick last year to select the North Dakota State product. Unlike his first-round peers, Lance didn't get much playing time during his rookie campaign. He started just two games, spending most of the season as Garoppolo's backup and understudy. Garoppolo

Kyle Shanahan on why Thursday was a 'real good' practice despite interceptions, and how picky 49ers are about Jimmy Garoppolo's destination

By Kirk Larrabee

Trey Lance didn't exactly have a great stat line during Thursday's training camp session for the San Francisco 49ers, but head coach Kyle Shanahan says Lance was correct when he said Thursday's practice was better than Wednesday's despite multiple interceptions by the team's quarterbacks. Lance threw one of those interceptions and completed seven of 15 passes throughout the practice, while backups Nate Sudfeld and Brock Purdy threw three combined picks, according to 49ers beat reporter Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area. But afterwards, Lance told reporters he was encouraged with
