“You’re going to be the No. 1 team in the NFC”: Adam Rank predicts 14-3 record for 49ers

Sep 10, 2021 at 7:03 AM--

Yes, everyone remembers NFL Media analyst Adam Rank predicting a three-win season for the San Francisco 49ers in 2019. That team went on to win 13 games before a playoff run that ended just short of a championship.

Last year, Rank predicted a 12-4 record. Instead, San Francisco won half as many games after suffering through one of the most injury-plagued seasons NFL fans had seen in decades. Rank gets a pass because no one saw that one coming.

The Niners are healthier entering the 2021 season and look to prove that last season, not 2019, was the anomaly. So what is Rank's prediction for this year's squad?

Rank predicts an impressive 14-3 record.

The three predicted losses are to the Arizona Cardinals on the road, Los Angeles Rams at home, and Seattle Seahawks on the road. Rank believes the final game of the season against the Rams in Inglewood could be a pivotal matchup.

"Week 18, with a chance to win the NFC West and take the No. 1 seed in the NFC, the 49ers come to SoFi Stadium, beat the Rams," Rank said. "49ers, 14-3, No. 1 in the NFC.

"I know this probably upsets Forty-Niner fans, who would rather me pick them for three wins. Listen, I've got to keep it real. This is a very good team, and you're going to be the No. 1 team in the NFC."

Here is a breakdown of Rank's game-by-game selections.

Deebo Samuel showing flashes of 49ers great Jerry Rice, says

Deebo Samuel is the NFL's leading receiver through four weeks of play. He has 490 receiving yards and three receiving touchdowns on 28 receptions, which puts him on pace for over 2,000 yards through 17 games. Now, a lot has to happen between now and the end of the season for Samuel to come anywhere close to that milestone. While Calvin Johnson was 36 yards shy of that mark in 2012, no one has reached it. Samuel would have to maintain his current pace and stay healthy to come close, even with the benefit of a 17-game season. While the receiving record would be a significant challenge, NFL Media researcher Dante Koplowitz-Fleming shares

'My whole entire body was affected': 49ers pass rusher Dee Ford details dealing with chronic back issues

Some wondered if San Francisco 49ers pass rusher Dee Ford would ever play an NFL snap again. Ford never questioned that. He started dealing with a back injury after Week 1 last season and never returned to the field in 2020. Most felt that any contributions from Ford this season would be a bonus for the 49ers. Ford has played in all four games this season and racked up three sacks in the process. Two of those came this past weekend against the Seattle Seahawks. Once again, Ford is making an impact on the Niners defense. That's pretty good for a player who many felt might retire. Retirement, though, was never on Ford's mind. "For me, personally, [the injury] was tough," Ford said this morning on KNBR's Murph & Mac show. "... I always
