Watch 49ers rookie Trey Lance fire up the crowd before practice

Jul 29, 2021 at 10:27 AM--

San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan regretted not having a rookie player fire up the crowd during the first training camp practice this week. The team has tasked a rookie with doing so in previous years. Obviously, not last year, as no fans were in the stands for practices.

"We usually do a rookie hype machine, and I feel like I didn't see it out there today," Shanahan told reporters yesterday. "So I was kind of disappointed with that. I'll get that corrected later today, but it was definitely different (seeing fans again). And I'm so pumped to see it in the stadium."

Shanahan did get it corrected.

Rookie quarterback Trey Lance, the 49ers' first-round pick, was the one out there getting fans fired up before today's practice — the second of training camp.

San Francisco 49ers general manager John Lynch joined KNBR's Murph & Mac show this morning. He provided an update on his rookie quarterback, Trey Lance, who has been recovering from a chipped bone in his finger suffered on August 29 in the preseason finale against the Las Vegas Raiders. The 49ers are preparing for their Week 1 matchup against the Detroit Lions, and Lance has been limited in the team's last two practices. Lynch was asked if his rookie will be available on Sunday. "It looks like it," Lynch responded. "He's had two good days of practice, provided he goes out there today and doesn't have any setbacks, which, at this point, is just about not hitting his hand on anyone's helmet, the way he [initially injured the finger]. Trey Lance ditches finger splint but still isn't throwing at practice; 49ers jersey number updates

The San Francisco 49ers held a practice this morning at 10:40 a.m. in Santa Clara, and many eyes were on the status of rookie quarterback Trey Lance's hand. He suffered a small fracture in a finger on his throwing hand during the team's preseason finale against the Las Vegas Raiders on August 29. An opposing defender's helmet hit the quarterback's hand. "He ended up having a small chip on his finger, so he's going to be out about seven days," head coach Kyle Shanahan told reporters the day after the game. This morning, Lance stepped onto the practice field without the splint around his index finger or a wrap surrounding his right hand. That would indicate that the rookie quarterback's recovery might be on
