The San Francisco 49ers kicked off a three-day rookie minicamp today. While not too much should be taken from Trey Lance's first practice of the offseason, it was good to finally see the rookie quarterback throwing while donning a gold helmet.

Today's practice was the only one of this minicamp to which the media will have access. The remaining two sessions over the next two days are closed to reporters. While reporters probably had to use binoculars to see the new 49ers quarterback due to COVID protocols, the rookie did leave some positive impressions.

"Lance was the only quarterback in Friday's session," reported Cam Inman of Bay Area News Group, "and he completed his first 12 passes in 7-on-7 action, most of which came on short throws, but he did nail a 15-yard dart over the middle in early action.

Added Inman: "Lance wasn't glaringly rusty as quarterback coach Rich Scangarello talked him through early drills."
Eric Branch of the San Francisco Chronicle humorously took his evaluation a step further.
Trey Lance completed 20 of 24 passes in 7-on-7 work at his first practice at #49ers rookie minicamp. Completions were primarily screens and checkdowns. There was one drop. Initial evaluation: Canton.

Here are some other first impressions from the media, following the 49ers' first practice — albeit not featuring the entire team — of the year.
Trey Lance was on target during his first 7 throws during 7-on-7 drills. There's some discussion that his first pass was dropped, otherwise he'd have seven straight completions.

No sweeping conclusions after Trey Lance's first NFL practice except for this: He looks the part. Looked natural. Best throw was a 15-yard bullet in traffic to veteran Marquise Lee. Threw one INT (Deommodore Lenoir)

Not too much to really take away from rookie minicamp especially being on the far side, but Trey Lance is fun, so are Sermon and Mitchell #indepthanalysis

Trey Lance 7-on-7 takeaways: seemed efficient, hit vast majority of throws (mostly short, underneath, check downs). He's the only QB at minicamp, so getting all the reps. #49ers

Didn't have a great view, but Lance seemed to operate the offense fine. Saw him have to re-huddle once to get the call in.
