Report: 49ers among Deshaun Watson’s list of teams he’s ‘intrigued by’

Feb 12, 2021 at 8:26 AM--

ESPN's Jeremy Fowler is reporting that the San Francisco 49ers are among quarterback Deshaun Watson's list of teams that he is "intrigued by."

"I checked in with a source that says Deshaun Watson has a list of teams that he's intrigued by," said Fowler on ESPN's Get Up. "He's not pigeonholing anything, but he's got a list. I didn't get all the teams, but I was told that the Denver Broncos, the San Francisco 49ers are two of them.

"I also asked the source about the Jets and the Dolphins because they have the most draft capital this year and the next few years. I was told the Jets, 'Eh, probably not.' Maybe more so the Dolphins as far as viability."

Watson has expressed frustration with the Texans organization and has requested a trade. The team has not expressed interest in parting ways with its star quarterback. It was reported on Friday morning that the Texans would release defensive end J.J. Watt, a longtime fan-favorite.

Should Watson successfully force a trade, most expect the cost for the quarterback to include significant draft capital and possibly a young talented player or two. Watson is 25 years old and is preparing to enter his fifth NFL season. He has missed just one game over the past three years and led the league with 4,823 passing yards while throwing 33 touchdowns and seven interceptions during the 2020 season.

"But Watson knows he has to wait this out," continued Fowler. "He's got the no-trade clause in his contract. But it's all about the Texans continuing to tell teams, and they believe them, that they're not going to trade Deshaun Watson. I've talked to several execs who say they think GM Nick Caserio is dug in here."

H/t to Patrick Tulini for the find.

The San Francisco 49ers traded up to the No. 3 overall pick to select a quarterback. Whether that player is Mac Jones of Alabama, Justin Fields of Ohio State, or Trey Lance of North Dakota State remains to be seen. While one of those three is the most likely target, the Good Morning Football hosts threw out an intriguing scenario. What if head coach Kyle Shanahan really wants the player many see as the most intriguing prospect in the draft—tight end Kyle Pitts of Florida? Now, it is important to note that no one is saying this is even a possibility. It just created an interesting discussion point. When it comes to the three quarterback

Justin Wong just released his latest Mock Draft Roundup. The overwhelming favorite projection for the San Francisco 49ers at the No. 3 overall pick is the selection of quarterback Mac Jones of Alabama. Add NFL Network's Peter Schrager to the list of those following that narrative. The Good Morning Football host released his own mock draft on Thursday morning, and like most others, it has Trevor Lawrence of Clemson and Zach Wilson of BYU coming off the board with the top two selections. Those predictions seem like

Justin Fields to throw again for NFL teams on April 14; 49ers expected to attend

Much was said of San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch's absences from Ohio State's pro day last week. Instead of traveling to Columbus to watch quarterback Justin Fields, a candidate to be drafted with the team's No. 3 overall pick, the duo was in Tuscaloosa for Alabama's pro day, watching Mac Jones. Why Jones over Fields? "[Just] talking with Fields' agent [David Mulugheta] and everything, we'll get another one from him too," Shanahan explained last week, per Kirk Larrabee. "So we'll be able to see him. That kind of made it an easy decision." According to Fields' agent, that next opportunity will come on
