The San Francisco 49ers have re-signed safety Kai Nacua, who announced the news via his Twitter account (h/t to ESPN's Nick Wagoner). He was scheduled to become an exclusive-rights free agent.
Update: The 49ers officially announced the signing on Thursday, February 11, a day after the initial report. The deal is for one year.
San Francisco initially signed Nacua to the practice squad on November 24, 2020. He was promoted to the active roster on December 2, 2020, was active for five games, and played three defensive snaps between Week 15 and 16 while contributing mostly on special teams in the other games.
The Cleveland Browns signed Nacua as an undrafted free agent out of BYU in 2017. In three NFL seasons that also included stints with the Baltimore Ravens (2018), Carolina Panthers (2018), and Indianapolis Colts (2019), he has appeared in 21 games with three starts and registered 15 tackles, a tackle for a loss, and a quarterback hit.
