The San Francisco 49ers have four games remaining on their schedule. A chance remains that the defending NFC champions could sneak into the playoffs. The Niners would need to win every one of those four games to do so, though.
Monday night's loss to the Buffalo Bills put the 49ers in the No. 11 spot in the NFC playoff standings. Only seven will make it. The team can't focus on standings or what other teams ahead of it are doing. San Francisco has a control-what-you-can-control mentality. What the 49ers can control is how they perform against the opponent ahead of them.
On Wednesday, KNBR's Mark Willard asked running back Jeff Wilson Jr. what he and his teammates are talking about as they head into a crucial Week 14 matchup against the Washington Football Team.
"Beat Washington. That's what everybody's talking about," Wilson responded. "We've got to take this thing one week at a time, like we've been doing the whole season, and the only thing we can control right now and look forward to is playing Washington Sunday."
As for what happened on Monday night, Wilson feels his team failed to execute against a great opponent.
"That's a great team that we were up against," the running back said. "And playing that caliber of team, you can't make mistakes, and you have to go out there and execute, and be on point, and be 100 percent on all cylinders. We weren't, and they were, and obviously, they won."
