49ers’ Kyle Shanahan jokes about running out of hat options for games

Nov 14, 2020 at 9:57 AM--

Kyle Shanahan has yet to wear his official red Shanahat this season. If he hasn't by now, he probably isn't going to. The San Francisco 49ers coach has come close, though. He switched to a red version of the team's script hat during the team's Week 9 contest against the Green Bay Packers, but it wasn't the Shanahat.

The 49ers sit at 4-5, which places them in last place within the NFC West. So Shanahan's choices of headwear haven't been as lucky as last season, and the coach is running out of options.

"I wore a red hat last week," Shanahan jokingly explained on Thursday during KNBR's Tolbert, Krueger & Brooks show. "That didn't help too much. I'm running out of colors. I've got white left, and New Era, because of COVID, they weren't able to make new hats this year because their place was shut down, or wherever they make it. So, that's why I haven't been able to get any new hats.

"But I don't have a white one. So, hopefully, one day, I'll get a white one because it will be my last color available."

Shanahan was told he could wear his hat backward if he is looking for ways to mix things up on the sidelines.

"Trust me, I would love to do that," Shanahan responded after laughing. "That's what I do off the sidelines. But I'm afraid I'll take too much crap for it."

You can listen to the entire conversation with Shanahan below.

49ers' Kyle Shanahan is Shrinking in the Spotlight

By Gilbert Brink
Nov 16, 2020

Enough Excuses. On Sunday, the 49ers suffered their 3rd straight blowout loss, dropping them to 4-6 and continuing their free-fall to irrelevancy. It was a game they could have won, the opportunities were there, but the 49ers just couldn't muster up more than 13 points of offense. Now, more than ever, the 49ers' 2020 season seems to be completely lost. While many look for a direction to point the finger, and there are a few obvious areas, start with the head coach. Sure, there have been a plethora of injuries, but one side of the ball has been handling those injuries much better than the other. Robert Saleh's defensive unit has been depleted by the injury bug, losing Dee Ford, Nick Bosa, Richard Sherman, Solomon Thomas, K'waun Williams, Jaquiski Tartt and other significant
