While the Green Bay Packers deal with COVID-19 and injury-related issues at running back, the San Francisco 49ers are trying to find enough wide receivers to play in the game. Maybe receivers coach Wes Welker wouldn't mind suiting up.
I could list the unavailable receivers heading into the Thursday-night showdown, but it may be faster to name the healthy and available ones. So here we go.

Deebo Samuel was already ruled out due to a hamstring injury when teammate Kendrick Bourne tested positive for COVID-19. Contact tracing landed Samuel on the reserve/COVID-19 list with Bourne. Joining them are rookie receiver Brandon Aiyuk and left tackle Trent Williams.
The 49ers waived Dante Pettis on Tuesday. Maybe they should have waited a few days.
The 49ers have three healthy receivers on the practice squad. One is former first-round pick Kevin White. The other two are (checks list) Chris Finke and River Cracraft. Are you not sure who they are? No one is really going to blame you, but expect at least two of them to be promoted for Thursday night's game.
There was rookie Jauan Jennings, but he recently landed on injured reserve because ... well ... 2020.

ESPN analyst Matt Miller understands the perspective of San Francisco 49ers fans. After all, he has been a fan of the team since he was a kid. Seeing any of your favorite players leave and put on another uniform is tough.
It's also difficult to pay everyone, and Miller knows that. It's not a formula for successful roster building, including paying two wide receivers top dollar.
The 49ers are trying to negotiate a contract extension with wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk. The team invested heavily in another receiver, Deebo Samuel, just two years ago. Analyst Steve Palazzolo unveiled a first-round mock draft for Pro Football Focus, attempting to forecast the selections for each NFL team within the top 32 picks. While the San Francisco 49ers concentrated on strengthening the defensive line in free agency, Palazzolo envisions the team continuing to fortify that side of the ball.

It's evident that the San Francisco 49ers engaged in long-term financial planning. Much discussion has centered around the feasibility of the team committing significant financial resources to two wide receivers, Brandon Aiyuk and Deebo Samuel. Some skeptics question the wisdom of such heavy investment in a single position, especially considering that the 49ers handed Samuel a substantial three-year extension merely two years ago.
