Kyle Shanahan announces 49ers’ seven team captains heading into 2020 season

Sep 9, 2020 at 12:54 PM--

San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan spoke to reporters before Wednesday's practice and revealed seven of the team's captains heading into the 2020 season. They are quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo, tight end George Kittle, defensive lineman Arik Armstead, cornerback Richard Sherman, linebacker Fred Warner, and tackles Mike McGlinchey and Trent Williams.

49ers players voted on Saturday, and the captains were announced to the team on Monday.

"There's seven of them. I think last year, we had five," Shanahan said. "They changed the rules. We're allowed to have eight this year. ... Room for one more, if we decide to go that way."

San Francisco will kick off the regular season on Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals at Levi's Stadium.

Are they good? Are they bad? Maybe it depends on the week. No one really seems to be sure what to make of the San Francisco 49ers when it comes to power rankings. One week they are being walloped by the Miami Dolphins. The next, they are knocking off the Los Angeles Rams. The 49ers finally earned their first home win of the season by beating the favored Rams 24-16 at Levi's Stadium on Sunday night as many were prepared to write off Kyle Shanahan's squad. Things don't get any easier for the 49ers, who will travel to Foxborough this weekend to face the New England Patriots before matchups against the Seattle Seahawks, Green Bay Packers, and New Orleans Saints. The 49ers received some more bad news on the injury front. Coach Shanahan informed reporters that featured

The San Francisco 49ers aren't the only team that will enter Week 8 banged up at running back. Their opponent, the Seattle Seahawks, is also dealing with issues at the position. The 49ers will be without featured back Raheem Mostert and Jeff Wilson Jr. Wilson rushed for a career-high 112 yards during Sunday's win over the New England Patriots before suffering a high-ankle sprain in the third quarter. He will join Mostert, who coincidentally sustained the same injury a week earlier, on injured reserve. San Francisco could get back Tevin Coleman this week. At least, head coach Kyle Shanahan remains optimistic about the veteran rusher's return. "I hope so,"
