49ers injury news: Richie James ahead of schedule, could be cleared before Week 1, per report
It sounds as though San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Richie James may be ahead of schedule in his rehab from a broken wrist. The injury was suffered in June and was expected to force the third-year receiver to miss some time this season.
Mike Garafolo of NFL Network is reporting that James could be cleared in advance of Week 1.
As Garafolo stated, head coach
Kyle Shanahan said today that he remains hopeful to have Deebo Samuel (foot) and
Brandon Aiyuk (hamstring) available for Week 1 — a September 13 matchup against the Arizona Cardinals at Levi's Stadium.
"We're hoping to get both of those guys back next week," Shanahan said.
The coach wasn't, however, asked about James as many expected the receiver to start the season on the non-football-injury (NFI) list.
San Francisco made James a seventh-round draft pick out of Middle Tennessee State in 2018. He has recorded 15 receptions for 295 yards with two touchdowns over the past two seasons while being a significant contributor on special teams.
James was the team's leading kick returner last season, averaging 21.4 yards on his 20 returns. He also led the team in punt returns with 264 yards on 33 returns (8.0-yard average).

49ers' 2022 schedule among the toughest in strength-of-schedule rankings
The NFL will announce the entire 2022 slate of matchups on Thursday night. That's when we'll learn the dates and times for all 272 regular-season games. However, we've known the opponents for a while now. If the San Francisco 49ers are to return to the playoffs for the third time in four years, it won't be an easy road.
San Francisco's upcoming opponents went 154-135 in 2021. The team's schedule will include seven matchups against opponents coming off a playoff appearance (Rams twice, Cardinals twice, Chiefs, Buccaneers, Raiders). Those opponents had a total winning percentage of .533 in 2021, which is good enough to tie with the Kansas City Chiefs as the fifth-toughest schedule
Will 49ers Jimmy Garoppolo practice once he's cleared?
Now that the Deebo Samuel drama is currently in hibernation, and the "Trey Lance isn't ready" tour has slowed some, Jimmy Garoppolo is back in the headlines. Not for any reason other than it's Jimmy Garoppolo.
I know, I know. You're sick of hearing his name. Trust me. I'm sick of hearing it and spelling it. But until the San Francisco 49ers trade Garoppolo, name him the starter, declare that Lance is the starter or decree that the beginning of training camp will be the dawning of a new era in the 49ers' quarterback room, we will continue to hear about him.
So until there is a mutual parting of the ways, writers will write about him, content creators will talk about him, reporters will continue to speculate, and the national media will continue to make things
2022 Schedule Tracker: 49ers open at Bears, host Seahawks Week 2
The NFL will unveil the league's complete 272-game 2022 schedule on Thursday night at 5:00 p.m. PT. It is common for select week-to-week opponent matchups to leak before the official announcement. I've created this tracker to collect those leaks as the official schedule release time approaches.
As usual, the San Francisco 49ers will meet each NFC West team twice. On May 4, the NFL revealed that the 49ers will travel to Mexico City on November 21 to face the Arizona Cardinals at Estadio Azteca—a Week 11 primetime matchup on ESPN's Monday Night Football.
The 49ers will face the third-place teams in the NFC East, NFC North, and AFC East. The team is also slated to play the entire NFC South and AFC West.

Creating the ideal 2022 San Francisco 49ers schedule
As I searched the world wide web for exciting things to bring to the world, I couldn't help but draw inspiration from the great Matt Barrows of The Athletic. In a recent mailbag article, a fan presented the task of creating the ideal San Francisco 49ers schedule based on what we already know for home/away opponents.
Here is my dream schedule for the 2022 49ers season.
Week 1 vs. Cardinals - This would be a home game for the 49ers and must-see television. Trey Lance would get a second chance at the team that handed him his first loss. Kyler Murray vs. Lance is pay-per-view quality.
Week 2 at Panthers - Now that Lance got his feet wet, he should have no problems commanding his troops against the Carolina Panthers. I
