George Kittle is special, and he will receive a special contract at some point, making the All-Pro the highest-paid tight end in the NFL.

Kittle's San Francisco 49ers suffered a devastating defeat in Super Bowl LIV, and look to kick off a "Legendary Revenge Tour" in September as the team fights to return to the big game. Pro Football Focus' George Chahrouri believes the tight end will be a big part of that uphill battle and isn't doubting the team's ability to accomplish its goal.

"As hard as it is to make it back to the ultimate stage, the 49ers remain as talented as any team in the NFL," Chahrouri says, "which is why PFF's 2020 season simulations had them making another February trip to Florida 17 percent of the time — the second-most often of any NFC team."

Chahrouri goes on to state why he believes Kittle's uniqueness bodes well for the 49ers' 2020 campaign, and why it will probably lead to an unprecedented contract for a tight end. His 95.0 overall grade from Pro Football Focus last season was the highest ever by a tight end during the analytics site's existence.

"Kittle is just different," Chahrouri explains. "His average target was only six yards downfield — the shortest of any wide receiver or tight end with at least 100 targets. But he made up for it by breaking 20 tackles and averaging over seven yards after the catch, both of which pace the NFL.

"Despite having so many fewer opportunities to go downfield than most wide receivers, Kittle's PFF wins above replacement, which measures value across position, would have ranked 20th among wideouts. Not bad for a fifth-round tight end."

Contract talks between the 49ers and Kittle's agent have reportedly stalled, with the two sides said to be far apart in discussions. The tight end's uniqueness, paired with an abnormal offseason and the uncertainty of future salary cap numbers, has seemingly made the contract negotiations more challenging.

Added Chahrouri: "Kittle will be rewriting what a tight end contract will look like, and his continued dominance will be the key to getting the 49ers back to the promised land."

H/t to Patrick Tulini for the find.

Donte Whitner believes 49ers were dealt a bad hand during Super Bowl

By David Bonilla
Apr 9

One former San Francisco 49ers player is making his opinion of Super Bowl 58 very clear. He believes his former team was dealt a bad hand in the matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs in Las Vegas two months ago. Former 49ers safety Donte Whitner, appearing this week on the "Up & Adam" show with Kay Adams, was vocal regarding the matchup and how certain circumstances seemed to favor the Chiefs. "And when we think about the Super Bowl as well, I think that the 49ers played against the refs as well, guys," Whitner told Adams. "I think that when we look at that film and you see bear hugs on those defensive ends, right? And you really see it in blatant moments in the game." Adams couldn't help but laugh at Whitner's comments, and the former player

George Kittle recently spoke with ESPN during the Masters Tournament in Augusta, Georgia, where he joined other NFL stars for the golfing event. Of course, the conversation shifted toward football, with Laura Rutledge asking Kittle to reflect on the team's 2023 season, its Super Bowl defeat, and the motivation it provides for the upcoming season. The tight end believes San Francisco maintained a competitive roster this offseason and is gearing up for another run at a championship. He emphasized the importance of maintaining good health and continual improvement for a successful upcoming season. "Brock Purdy is a fantastic quarterback, and he's only going to get better because he's young," Kittle said. "And we were fortunate enough to be able to keep our entire

Deebo Samuel and Brock Purdy are why the 49ers can afford to pay Brandon Aiyuk

By David Bonilla
Apr 10

It's evident that the San Francisco 49ers engaged in long-term financial planning. Much discussion has centered around the feasibility of the team committing significant financial resources to two wide receivers, Brandon Aiyuk and Deebo Samuel. Some skeptics question the wisdom of such heavy investment in a single position, especially considering that the 49ers handed Samuel a substantial three-year extension merely two years ago. Adding complexity to this debate is the impending contract extension for quarterback Brock Purdy, positioning him to become the highest-paid player on the team. He will likely even become one of the NFL's highest-paid players. Where he ranks in average salary will depend upon whether he can replicate the stellar performance of his Pro Bowl 2023

PFF mock draft has 49ers adding cornerback with 'unique fluidity and size'

By David Bonilla
Apr 10

Analyst Steve Palazzolo unveiled a first-round mock draft for Pro Football Focus, attempting to forecast the selections for each NFL team within the top 32 picks. While the San Francisco 49ers concentrated on strengthening the defensive line in free agency, Palazzolo envisions the team continuing to fortify that side of the ball. In his mock draft, Palazzolo predicts that the 49ers will select former Iowa State cornerback T.J. Tampa with the No. 31 overall pick. "Tampa's unique fluidity and size for a cornerback make him worthy of a top-75 pick," reads the analysis from Pro Football Focus' big board. "If he can clean up his footwork, he can
