49ers’ George Kittle has been embarrassing defenders since Pop Warner

Feb 17, 2020 at 9:30 AM--

San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle has led the league in yards after the catch the past two seasons. He had 621 in 2019, not including postseason play. Fans are used to watching the All-Pro tight end catching passes and then embarrassing defenders on the way to significant gains downfield.

That didn't start in the NFL, college, or even high school. It turns out Kittle could embarrass defenders in Pop Warner football, as well.

Our friends over at TheSFNiners posted the following video from Kittle's Pop Warner days, which is a fun watch for any 49ers or Kittle fan. It originated from Kittle's wife, Claire, who posted it via Instagram.

Kittle, 26, is preparing to enter his fourth NFL season. The exciting NFL star recorded 85 receptions for 1,053 yards with five touchdowns through 14 regular-season starts in 2019.

Kittle has caught 216 passes for 2,945 yards with 12 touchdowns through his three NFL seasons. His receiving yards total since being drafted are the most by a tight end during the player's first three seasons.

What rubbed 49ers safety Jimmie Ward the wrong way about the Los Angeles Rams last season to the point where he's already looking to face off against them on the field? Ward spoke about that subject on Sunday, as he was one of a handful of players to talk with local and national media during and after 49ers practice. Also speaking with reporters was defensive coordinator DeMeco Ryans, who provided a number of thoughts on a few defensive players who are competing for roster spots and playing time. For a rundown of what Ward said Sunday as well as some quotes from Ryans, wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk's thoughts on his squabble with linebacker Fred Warner, and much more, check out this version of 49ers Notebook. Vernon Davis on 49ers TE George Kittle: "His skill set is unmatched"

By David Bonilla
Jul 31

Vernon Davis remains the all-time leading receiver among San Francisco 49ers tight ends. His 5,640 receiving yards over his 10 NFL seasons with the team ranks sixth in 49ers history. Hot on his tail is current tight end George Kittle, who has amassed 4,489 receiving yards in five years. Kittle is likely just a couple of seasons away from surpassing Davis in the 49ers record books. Davis was at training camp in Santa Clara this past week and was asked about Kittle. Below is what one great 49ers tight end had to say about the other. "George Kittle is unbelievable," Davis told Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area. "He's a wonderful talent. Every skill position, especially the tight end, they have different attributes. George Kittle, he has his ability to be able to

George Kittle, Nick Bosa break down how Trey Lance will elevate the 49ers offense

Tight end George Kittle is excited about the potential of the San Francisco 49ers offense in 2022. He knows Trey Lance at quarterback will open things up for an already creative play-caller like Kyle Shanahan. The always enthusiastic Kittle was among several 49ers players who joined KNBR after Tuesday's practice. Of course, the conversation eventually drifted toward the team's new starting quarterback. The tight end loves what he's seen from Lance compared to where the 22-year-old was just a year ago. "Honestly, my favorite thing about Trey right now is that I've just seen him get better, honestly," Kittle said on the Papa & Lund show. "From where he was last year in OTAs to where he was at training camp last year, to throughout the season last year, to even

Why George Kittle loves going against Jimmie Ward; 49ers safety forecasts 'Pick City'

San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle joined KNBR after Tuesday's practice and started the conversation by praising a defensive teammate—Jimmie Ward. Ward might be the most underrated player on a defense boasting stars Nick Bosa and Fred Warner. The 49ers tight end knows how valuable the veteran safety is for the team, though. "I said [in a previous interview] Jimmie Ward might be one of the most underrated players in the NFL," Kittle said on the Papa & Lund show. "... When it's man coverage, you don't want Jimmie Ward on you because he's quick, he's physical, and he's really, really fast. He's got great hands, and he knows how to hold without getting holding calls. He's very good at that. "I'm very blessed to be able to go against
