San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel was six yards away from the rushing yards record for his position in the big game at halftime of the 49ers and Kansas City Chiefs matchup in Super Bowl LIV. It took three plays in the second half for him to get the record.
He picked up 14 yards on an end around to the left side. The rush gave him 53 yards in the game. The previous record was 45. It was set by Percy Harvin in 2014 with the Seattle Seahawks.
Samuel found success when carrying the ball in the regular season. He had 159 yards, leading all wide receivers in the NFL. However, he had just 14 rushes in the 15 games he played.
Samuel being utilized in the run game has become more prevalent in the playoffs. He had 43 yards in the NFC Championship game against the Green Bay Packers. With an additional six yards against the Minnesota Vikings in the first playoff game, Samuel now has more than 100 yards rushing on six carries in the playoffs.
