Conflicting rumors about LB Lance Briggs

Feb 27, 2008 at 11:34 AM--

Yesterday, Sean Jensen of AOL Sports said that linebacker Lance Briggs has been pegged to land in San Francisco. Sean Jensen's accuracy is unknown when it comes to rumors.

However, this morning, ProFootballTalk.com stated that a source close to the situation tells them that the 49ers currently aren't even among the teams that are interested in Briggs' services.

Last year, there were many rumors flying around about linebacker Adalius Thomas. Some rumors even had him staying in Santa Clara the night free agency started. Not only was Thomas not in the Bay Area, but he never visited with the 49ers and signed with the Patriots.

Last week's trade forced draft analysts to tear up their mock drafts and start over — at least, start over from the No. 3 overall pick. The Miami Dolphins used to be slotted there. Now, it's the San Francisco 49ers. Make no mistake, general manager John Lynch and head coach Kyle Shanahan are seeking a quarterback of the future. Who they are leaning towards remains a mystery. NFL Media analyst Lance Zierlein released his latest mock draft and has selections No. 1 and 2 going as expected, with Trevor Lawrence to the Jacksonville Jaguars and Zach Wilson to the New York Jets. At No. 3, Zierlein has San Francisco selecting former

Monday's press conference with San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch didn't offer any concrete clues on which quarterback they'll be taking with the third overall selection in the 2021 NFL Draft, but one thing did become perfectly clear -- they very much seem to like the options they have in front of them out of a group that will likely consist of Mac Jones of Alabama, Justin Fields of Ohio State, and Trey Lance of North Dakota State. The world won't know which of those players the 49ers like the most until the draft's first round takes place on April 29, but there's already been plenty of speculation as to who the selection will be. The widespread assumption is that quarterback Trevor Lawrence of Clemson will go at pick one to the

It's a foregone conclusion that Zach Wilson is going No. 2 overall to the New York Jets. With Trevor Lawrence a lock to head to the Jacksonville Jaguars at No. 1, that leaves the San Francisco 49ers with their choice of Justin Fields, Mac Jones, and Trey Lance. Many are predicting that the trade up to No. 3 was made for Jones. Others feel that is a massive reach that didn't necessarily require a move into the top 3. ESPN's Dan Graziano warns fans not to overlook Lance as the quarterback of the future in San Francisco. "All you hear is Mac Jones, Mac Jones to (the) 49ers," Graziano said on ESPN's Get Up! "I mean, that's all over the league, and it could happen. He could be their guy. But conversations that I've had in the last couple of days have led me

Justin Fields of Ohio State will hold his second pro day workout on Wednesday, April 14. San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch are expected to be in attendance. Both missed the former Buckeye quarterback's first pro day to attend Mac Jones' workout in Tuscaloosa. Shanahan and Lynch will have an opportunity to see quarterback Trey Lance of North Dakota State in person too. He will hold a second pro day on Monday, April 19 — 10 days before the start of the 2021 NFL Draft. North Dakota St. QB Trey Lance has now scheduled his second pro day for April 19, or 10 days before
