Green Bay Packers fans are eating up an old tweet by San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo ahead of the two teams meeting this weekend in the NFC Championship Game. The tweet came following his junior year at Eastern Illinois, as the then-Panthers quarterback watched a little NFL playoff action on television.

At the time, Rodgers was engaged in a Divisional Round playoff game against the New York Giants, a game the Packers would lose 37-20. The 20-year-old Garoppolo was obviously pulling for the then-28-year-old Rodgers to pull off a win.

Most of the replies to the tweet have come within the last day or so.

Garoppolo won't be pulling for Rodgers come Sunday. After all, a trip to the Super Bowl is on the line. Although, on Wednesday, the quarterback was asked about his Packers counterpart and what impressed him about the future Hall of Famer's play.

"There's a lot," Garoppolo responded. "Aaron, just the way he processes information quickly, the way he could scramble and make throws on the run, he really has a little bit of everything.

"Just watching his film, I love watching it to prepare and also to learn from him and see things that he does. It's just impressive. He does it at such a high level for such a long time now. You've got to tip your hat to him."

The 49ers and Packers kick off from Levi's Stadium on Sunday at 3:40 p.m. PT. San Francisco is currently a 7.5-point favorite.

H/t to The Spun for the find.

Trent Taylor snatches up 49ers star receiver's old number

By David Bonilla

San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel will be wearing No. 1 the next time he steps onto the football field, leaving behind his No. 19 jersey. It's an unfortunate change for any fan who previously invested in a Deebo jersey—unless they consider it a throwback. Newly signed wide receiver Trent Taylor quickly claimed No. 19 after rejoining the team on a one-year deal following three seasons elsewhere. Taylor last wore No. 15 with the 49ers, a number currently worn by wide receiver Jauan Jennings. Taylor also wore No. 81 with the team. The 49ers' official team site has listed the jersey numbers for several of the team's free-agent newcomers (and Maliek Collins, acquired via a

Transcripts provided by the San Francisco 49ers Communications staff. General Manager John Lynch Opening comments: "This to me, there's nothing like watching our guys compete on Sundays or Thursdays or Mondays. We play a lot of different days now, but nothing like watching our guys compete. But to me, this is really my favorite time of year as an organization because I think it represents our organization coming together and working for a common goal as much as anything we do. When you look at the guys I call our

Brock Purdy hopes to organize throwing session ahead of 49ers training camp

By David Bonilla
Apr 16

The San Francisco 49ers will hold a mandatory minicamp from June 4 through 6, officially concluding the team's offseason program. After that, the Niners will break for over a month and return to the Santa Clara facilities for training camp in late July. Between that time, starting quarterbacks will often organize throwing sessions with their receivers in an effort to build chemistry ahead of the rigors of training camp. 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy has been unable to participate in such sessions over the last two years. The last overall draft pick in 2022, Purdy had yet to make a name for himself during his first offseason. Last year, he was still recovering from offseason surgery on his throwing arm. RELATED:
