The San Francisco 49ers will wear their all-white throwback uniforms on Sunday night against the Seattle Seahawks at CenturyLink Field, according to a report by Chris Biderman of the Sacramento Bee.
The fan- and player-favorite throwback uniforms were last worn during Week 8 against the Carolina Panthers, a game the 49ers won 51-13. The uniform is patterned after those worn during San Francisco's last championship season in 1994.
"The NFL in 2018 softened its rules allowing teams to wear alternate uniforms up to three times during the regular season," writes Biderman.
This would be the 49ers' second time this season wearing their alternate throwbacks. Biderman reports that team captains were the ones to ask the organization to seek league approval to wear them once again, showing how popular the all-white uniforms are among players.
Sunday's game is significant when it comes to playoff positioning in the NFC. A 49ers win would mean an NFC West championship, a first-round bye, and home-field advantage throughout the playoffs. A loss would mean Seattle wins the division, and San Francisco would head on the road for the playoffs.
While the 49ers beat the Seahawks at home last season, the last time San Francisco won at CenturyLink Field was exactly eight years ago today, on December 24, 2011.
Former San Francisco 49ers tight end Eric Saubert is joining a division rival. According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Saubert is signing with the Seattle Seahawks.
