49ers-Rams Injury Report: Mike McGlinchey doesn’t practice, out 4 to 6 weeks; Todd Gurley doesn’t practice

Oct 9, 2019 at 3:05 PM--

The San Francisco 49ers are preparing for their Week 6 contest against the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum in Los Angeles, California.

The 49ers are already without starting left tackle Joe Staley, and the anchor on the other side of the offensive line, Mike McGlinchey, was nowhere to be seen at the start of Wednesday's practice.

Head coach Kyle Shanahan revealed after practice that McGlinchey will undergo arthroscopic surgery on his left knee and will miss four to six weeks. Daniel Brunskill will start at right tackle in his place.

In June, Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk created a stink over some offseason comments by Kyle Shanahan. The San Francisco 49ers head coach commented during the team's State of the Franchise event about his desire to get back to that fourth quarter in the Super Bowl and finish the job. Florio felt the comments dismissed the work it takes to get to that point and set unrealistic expectations. Except, Shanahan did note that he was well aware that the journey would not be easy, and that this season will be harder than ever. "That's why all of our guys have got to take this challenge, and we've got to take advantage of this offseason," Shanahan said in June.

The San Francisco 49ers are hoping to sign tight end George Kittle to a long-term extension. The two sides don't sound as though they are very close in the negotiation process, however. NFL insider Ian Rapoport reported earlier this week that the 49ers and Kittle's camp are not "particularly close on anything." Mike Silver of NFL Network seems to be hearing the same thing and on Friday provided an update on Kittle's contract situation. "There remains a pretty significant disconnect philosophically between the 49ers and George Kittle's camp. The 49ers believe they want to reset the tight end market and give him a great tight end deal.
