As previously reported, former NFL head coach Mike Shanahan was on hand in Denver over the last two days to watch his son, San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan, and his team practice against the Broncos. The two squads will play a preseason game against each other at Mile High Stadium on Monday night.
The elder Shanahan spoke with reporters after Saturday's practice and briefly discussed what last season's study sessions with 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo were like.
Garoppolo, as you likely know, was recovering from an ACL injury suffered early in the season. Kyle Shanahan felt it might be more beneficial for the quarterback to spend time with his father studying NFL film rather than have him sit in game-planning meetings when he wasn't going to play.
Garoppolo reportedly spent up to 15 hours a week studying film with Mike Shanahan, who coached the Broncos to three Super Bowl championships and won another as the offensive coordinator with the 49ers.
